Carters Beach is possibly the safest swimming beach on the South Island's west coast. Well developed coastal reserve with toilet, change and BBQ facilities.
Popular local restaurants and only a short distance to the cycle trail, jet-boating, kayaking, bush railway and mining adventures.
Westport City is nearby and the locally brewed beers some of the best in New Zealand - try their Pilsener !
Fresh fish and whitebait in season, locally baked pies including game meat options ; venison and pork !
Brilliant history and fantastic coastal features include Cape Foulwind and lighthouse, off shore islands with sea bird nesting, penguins and seals beaches, best visited from nearby Tauranga Bay.

Westport always delivers no matter what the weather. So many things to see & do including fantastic walkways & cycle rides.
After any good ride, a great place to have a beer is at the Shortjaw brewery.

The location is excellent especially if you enjoy cycling ,...
The location is excellent especially if you enjoy cycling , the track to Charleston is very user friendly and is suitable for all riders , the track goes through lots of beautiful bush that is home to many birds.
Bikers and walkers can also travel back to Westport and return, there are many information boards along the way describing the early settlers and the local wildlife.
I highly recommend this coastal track for everyone.

It is close but far enough away from any towns and crowds...
It is close but far enough away from any towns and crowds but half an hour to Wesport or head north exploring heaps of old mining towns some currently mining. Drive over the hill the scenery in Karamea is beautiful full of native trees and birds.

Suzanne the owner was so lovely and bent over backwards to help us. We had a lot of washg and she was happy for us to use her facilities. She recommended to us a lovely place to have dinner right by beach, but unfortunately was closed that night so went into town.
The unit we stayed in was lovely, very tasteful, very comfortable with everything we needed. We wd totally recommend this place to others, and if we are ever in Westport again wd want to stay there. Tony and Charyse, Gisborne.

lovely town and surrounding areas. people so welcoming and friendly. Tonys cafe is AMAZING. The FOH lady is a Superstar. Beaches are so cool, watching the rough seas crashing in, the wildlife, the quietness, the treasures to see and find. Be mindful on the roads but otherwise FANTASTIC. I will be going back and spending so much more time there.

We absolutely loved our time here.
We absolutely loved our time here. Everything was right on our doorstep, stunning walks, mountain biking trails, and even a great local spot for dinner at the Star Tavern just down the road. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the setting, tucked into the hillside near the Lighthouse walking track and Kawatiri Cycle Track, was just beautiful. We left feeling refreshed and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended!

Carters beach / Westport is a great location for a relaxing escape. If you surf or just like to walk along the beach, I highly recommend this place to you. Seal Coloneys are not far away, and I believe the locals when they say the fishing is superb.

Great place and great food .The Quarry pub serve up a great meal at a great price.
This is a great location to take day trips from to see some of the attractions,and fine weather is best. However a wet day didn't deter us much as there are some great museums.
