I had a wonderful stay in this quirky Victorian villa. It’s full of character, with lots of unique art pieces that reflect the owner’s personal taste. If you’re after a modern, sleek hotel, this probably isn’t the place for you—but if you love charm and personality, you’ll adore it. The house was warm and toasty throughout my stay, and I loved the little touches like the tea and coffee-making facilities. My Victorian-style bed even came with a wee footstool, which was both practical and delightful. There are friendly cats around too, which added to the homely feel. The owner, Helen, lives on-site and was incredibly welcoming and hospitable. She made delicious homemade muffins for breakfast, which were absolutely glorious. Breakfast was included and really set the day off right. Overall, I loved my stay and would happily return. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a cosy, characterful getaway.

We absolutely loved our two night stay at the Hare and Hounds. It is in our opinion like an old world coaching Inn. Nooks and crannies, the odd low headroom doorway etc. Friendly staff and enjoyed the food, breakfast was lovely. We really liked the fact that while dining there were no TVs on in the background. How many places are there now with TVs on while you are eating, absolutely stifling the art of conversation.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The place was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfy. We looked for somewhere to stay outside of the villages and the Inn was ideally located on a quiet road with central easy access to all the lakes and nearby shops and necessities. We also had a delicious dinner at the Inn and the Guiness on tap was excellent! The room was well stocked with tea/coffee etc. Lots of easy parking.

This was a 12 out of 10 experience! The crew was friendly, professional and funny. The food was absolutely outstanding. The room itself was cozy, clean, modern and well equipped. The wifi is set up super professionally, as is the TV. The location is super idillic, and you can go on plenty of hikes starting from the Wheatsheaf, without it being overpopulated by others. Yet if you want to go sightseeing, some major lake district attractions are close by as well. We met lovely locals and promised ourselves to make this a yearly journey!

The owner, Yvonne, is super friendly and helpful. Very clean and comfortable room (no7). Very peaceful area, quiet at night. Great location with a pleasant walk along the river into town or straight up the high street. Good base for exploring the area.

Excellently decorated room, excellent breakfast, friendly and attentive owners. Very clean. A great location. We also had an evening meal which was delicious and served efficiently and speedily. A really good find. Having previously stayed at a hotel for 4 nights and not been satisfied, I would like to take the owners of this pub to the hotel so that they can show that hotel how to do it properly 'from start to finish.'
