The property is absolutely wonderful. Nice, natural landscaping that let's you feel immersed in the Hawaiian rainforest. Feels very secluded and private, while also feeling safe and welcoming. Its walking distance to a black sand, clothing optional, beach. I will definitely book here again when visiting the Big Island. I would feel safe here as a solo traveler. Stephen greeted us when we arrived to the property and was so welcoming. I immediately felt at ease in his presence. He gave us a tour and showed us to our rooms, let us know how to reach him if we needed anything. Our smoke alarm was going off one night and he came right over, checked it out and swapped the battery, fixing the problem. I traveled with a friend and we each had separate rooms. The house feels more home like, relaxing front porch, solid wood furniture, and everything you'd need. Both rooms were clean and beds comfortable. At first, I thought my bed may be too soft, but I slept SO good and woke with no pains, feeling refreshed, so it must have been just right. Bath and beach towels were in our rooms, a bathrobe, a list of hosted and local activities we may be interested in, and a little bowl of snacks too. I also appreciated they had sunscreen and bug spray available.

The breakfasts in the morning were incredible and private with abundance of breakfast varieties. The hosts are very friendly and easy to contact, they also have good recommendations for the area. There is a small fireplace to enjoy during cold nights. You are very close to the National Park and some restaurants (still driving distance). Arriving before the tour busses can make the national park experience much better. Overall, one of the best experiences we have had. If we would return, it would be to this same place.

We had a lovely welcome from Andy and the directions we were given were perfect . The apartment was spacious , very well equipped and spotlessly clean . The sound of the waves from the nearby seashore was amazing .The location was perfect for visiting the volcano national park and we recommend joining a trip to the summit of Mauna Kea . We would highly recommend choosing to stay here and do go and look at the beautiful sunrise at the point about 2 minutes walk away .

The bed was super comfortable and the backyard was very mellow to hang out in at the end of the day. We also loved the chirping frogs. Breakfast was bagels with cream cheese, granola and yogurt, coffee and fresh fruit.

The location was great, it’s close to the centre but you’re far away that you can also enjoy the silence of the sea. I also LOVED the fact you can see sunrise from the dining room 😍😍 and everyone working there are really friendly and helpful!

We stayed at Mahana House for two nights and absolutely loved it. The cottage was beautiful and incredibly comfortable — the bed even had adjustable firmness settings! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, and there was a laundry room where we could wash and dry our clothes for free. The cat was adorable, and for the first time, my husband changed his opinion about cats — he actually liked this one! Randy takes great care of the orchard, and the longans were delicious. We truly appreciated the peaceful surroundings — it was perfect for mindfulness and relaxation. We shared photos on Instagram, and so many of our friends are now planning to visit too! It’s about a 15-minute drive from Hilo town, so having a car is necessary — but totally worth it. This place is truly a dream stay. Highly recommended!

Ricky is also such a fantastic host, he spent time to chat with us after making a fantastic breakfast each day. Breakfast was a highlight with ingredients from his own farm on the property, served with a view out over the ocean. Truly a special experience and couldn't recommend enough!
