We were in the Garden House which was lovely, and quiet. Location very good for walking into the city, but a quite busy road. The breakfast was great and the staff really friendly and helpful.

Large and well appointed room. Nice bathroom with a great invigorating shower. I'm not sure the extractor fan was working as the room got very steamy & took a while to clear, not a major issue at all, just needs looking at. room 402, 2nd floor.

FAQs about hotels in Norwich

A Centre of Commerce Through The Ages

Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.

Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.

Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.

Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.

Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.

Norwich has the feel of a prosperous city; there are charity shops on some main streets but they're more 'Vintique' than shabby. Several shopping malls. If you like history there is lots : Castle & Cathedral are obvious draws but the areas around Bedford Street & Elm Hill show the mediaeval & later 'ordinary' buildings. For CAMRA lovers there are at least 30 pubs listed (2024 guide) ! Vegans who like an Indian vibe should visit 'Namaste Village'. While there are car parks in the city area there's also a good Park & Ride system; free parking and very reasonable bus charges.

We went to see the revamped castle museum which was well done but a bit expensive to get in. The tea room was however very reasonably priced. The cathedral is wonderful inside. Don't be put off by the disappointing west front! Free to go in but donations requested. Good range of shops and eateries in town. The arcade is worth visiting if only for the architecture.

The ‘fair city’ of Norwich has many attractions.

The ‘fair city’ of Norwich has many attractions. Back in the day it had a church for every week of the year and a pub for every day of the year and many remain. The bus service is excellent and if you’re looking for excellent reasonably priced eating establishments I recommend the Belgian Monk (which also has excellent beer) and the Waffle House. Norwich was the second largest city of the country until industrialisation led to the growth of others. Today it’s quieter and more peaceful than its competitors. If you tire of its attractions you remain within easy striking distance of the Norfolk Broads and the lovely beaches of North Norfolk.

The architecture across the ages depicts how this city has evolved - so much to admire & photograph. A huge array of eating places and most shops still vibrant despite the financial challenges. No litter - incredible. A very vibrant place - we heard five bands in two locations in two days and affordable. Norwich we will be back.

Quaint town with so much history and charm.

Quaint town with so much history and charm. We didn't get enough time to explore all the landmarks however a visit to Norwich Cathedral was too good to skip. It exudes so much architectural and historical significance through the amazing upkeep of the facility and its relics, supported by a group of very kind volunteers. Whilst we were there, the musician practising the organ gave us the tranquil experience that only a rustic place of worship can deliver.

Although check-in wasn't until 2pm, the hotel was happy for me to leave my car in their car park when I arrived in Norwich at 10.30am for some appointments in the city, and offered me my room as soon as it had been cleaned. Check-out the following day was at a fairly generous 11.30am. The location is pretty convenient - 10 minutes walk from the city centre, but also just far enough away that it was easy to reach by car and to have sufficient free parking.

The location was really nice, private and peaceful even though Norwich city centre was only 20 minutes drive away. We enjoyed the freedom of being able to come and go as we pleased. They were accommodating when we asked if we could arrive later than check in time. The information booklet was informative. The skylights were a nice addition. Lots of facilities, especially for children. The kitchen was fully equipped with electrical appliances.

Finding a hotel so close to Norwich city centre with ample parking was ideal! The staff that greeted me when checking in and out were so polite, helpful, and friendly. The room was great and had everything I needed and more (tea making facilities, microwave, fridge). The shower was modern with great water temperature and pressure and the bed very comfortable. I was impressed the tv had access to Netflix etc.

Our stay at the holiday inn was very good. Excellent position we were able to get a bus just outside the car park into Norwich city centre. There were a couple of pubs in walking distance and a very good Indian restaurant. The breakfast was also very good, and a good choice.
