Original and charming with a long beach.

Original and charming with a long beach. Don't expect much choice of places to eat out - especially in the evenings - and there's no village shop either. But we really loved it and will be back.

Chose Thorpeness because close to family in Leiston and Eyke. We live in Cheltenham and brought son with family from New Zealand for a short stay in this quaint and peaceful village. Thoroughly enjoyed facilities of famous Kitchen and the Dolphin pub - not the weather for punting on the Meare though unfortunately! Brilliant for coastal walks to Aldeburgh and Sizewell, tide permitting.

Lovely little village.

Lovely little village. We found some great walks in and around the area which were very pretty and interesting. The Emporium was fun to look around and there was a good selection of places to eat for such a small place.

Seems not many people have heard of Thorpeness, and niether had I before finding it this summer. It was created in the early 1900's as a holliday village in a mock tudor style. Very calm and lots of character. Right next to the sea, shingle beach, quite a few swimmers in August. If you are looking for a relaxing stay next to the sea it's perfect.

Unfortunately the weather was against me enjoying the outdoors as much as I would have liked. However the potential is there with some nice walks for someone fitter than I am. The town is so attractive with its lake and prettily designed houses. The beach is stony but less so at low tide. It is only a couple of minutes from where I stayed and I would certainly have spent more time searching for interesting stones had the weather been warmer and drier. The Antique Emporium is interesting - but worth checking some of those in surrounding villages. Thorpeness is a very good location for enjoying immediate surroundings but also for visiting many interesting places nearby. I particularly enjoyed the small weekly Tuesday market and local shops at Framlingham. Many of the small towns have their own museums and I particularly enjoyed Dunwich explaining the history of the lost city beneath the sea. With a free car park at the stony beach where it is possible to hunt for amber and a rather good cafe with excellent hot chocolate and fruit cake it is a real pleasure to visit, especially with a brisk cool wind at the end of a damp May!!! I would certainly return as there are so many interesting places to visit.

Lovely village to walk around.

Lovely village to walk around. The boating lake is central to everything. Go and visit the Thorpness emporium for a look around followed by a coffee @the kitchen. If you are looking for a good pub for dinner go to The Dolphin Inn, a good menu and its dog friendly; as are lots of eateries in the area.

The location is superb, particularly as we were attending a family wedding at Thorpeness Country Club, which we walked to. Being so close to the beach meant we could go for a dip in the sea before breakfast. The accommodation was light and airy and very clean. However, given the weather, it would have been good to know that there were fans in the shed next to the house. We didn't find them until we were leaving and looking for the bins.

The location was excellent, right on the beach with lovely views and amazing sunrises. We loved the spacious seating area and kitchen. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The proximity to Aldeburgh and Thorpeness made it very special.

Lovely old world club/hotel. Even as a non golfer it was a lovely place to stay. We were going to bring the dog and wished we had as it was very dog friendly (even allowed on golf course with golfers!)
