To me, top priority wherever I stay is cleanliness, then comfort and service. The Modernist ticks all the boxes. Such a pleasant stay. Lovely interior (modern and sleek), great location, fantastic staff, super-clean. I loved my "M"-sized room that came with a cute balcony (and a nice view, at that). Truly enjoyable stay. I highly recommend The Modernist and would absolutely stay there again.

Everything. I knew from the reviews that we were in good hands and we choose this place to spend New Year’s Eve. We were invited to celebrate and watch the fireworks together and were received with snacks, sparkling wine, it was an amazing night! The view of the Parthenon from the rooftop is breathtaking, the rooms are modern, clean and the location is ideal.

The perfect place to stay in Athens! All highlights are in walking distance and the hotel is located in a safe and proper neighborhood. The hotel feels like your very own piece of Olympus with a beautiful white marble staircase, gold and marble bathroom with spacious steamy shower and tranquil clean room with a comfy bed. Very good breakfast (a la carte) and very friendly staff (housekeeping, reception desk, bar and waiters). Highly recommended! Thank you for an amazing experience! 5 *****

Excellent hotel, new and clean, situated in a perfect location. Amazing breakfasts, excellent cuisine and very friendly staff very warm to kids. We also greatly appreciated the presence of original artwork throughout the hotel. The rooftop pool with a view of the Acropolis is perfect, our kids loved the pool. FAQs about hotels in Athens

A Dynamic City with 3400 Years of History

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history whilst embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you will find tavernas serving tantalising souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.

A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds downtown.

Changing the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The up-market districts of Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.

Athens contains some of the finest museums in the world such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

    1) The metro to the airport was chaotic - no separate line to the airport. Greek people who went to work on Monday morning and tourists who went to the airport with their luggage all jammed into line 3. One can imagine that trains were packed and sweaty. Upon arrival at the airport, there was only one escalator up to the airport terminal. Staff scanned each passenger's metro ticket in addition to the tapping out by the passengers, causing huge jams at the exit. 2) The Acropolis was always crowded, but it was worth to visit. But beware of the wind and the sand and dust blown up by the wind. 3) The entrance to the Ancient Agora has changed. Visitors were not informed on the site's webpage and only became aware where it was by accidentally coming across a notice hung on a fence near the site. I point out all the shortcomings and hope they could be improved by the Greek government to enhance visitor experience since Greece is a popular destination for many travellers.

My experience in Athens was truly beautiful, and I was lucky to have great weather during my stay. I visited the Acropolis, Hydra Island, and Lake Vouliagmeni — all of which were stunning and very relaxing. Prices in Athens felt a bit high considering it’s not exactly a luxury destination, but if you look around you can definitely find more affordable places to eat, and the public transportation is decent compared to taking taxis. In the evenings, I felt safe walking through the streets, and the nightlife in the city center was enjoyable — lively, but with a nice atmosphere where people were simply having a good time. Overall, I would recommend visiting Athens. It’s a city full of history, charm, and energy, and it makes for a wonderful trip.

Be careful on the subway, especially when getting off your first stop from the airport. There are muggers targeting tourists. Athens in general is very pretty in the Plaka and tourist areas. It has a good vibe and having dinner while looking at the Acropolis is beautiful. It's amazing to see such old historical sites. For us, we found it very expensive, especially eating out. But overall we had a lovely experience. All the tourist things are easy to walk to. A must to see : Acropolis and Parthenon Changing of the guards at the Tomb of the unknown soldier You must taste : Moussaka, Gyros, Saganaki

The Plaka city centre athens flat was perfectly located within a comfortable walking distance to and from the metro. The location was fabulous, close to the excellent restaurants, independent and touristy shops and the acropolis. We were also lucky enough to have partial view of it. The flat was well furnished, clean and our host was really attentive and responsive when we had issues or any questions before and during our stay. Overall, after spending a week around greece, athens and our stay at this apartment was the highlight of our trip.

This is my third time staying in this Hotel and I'm satisfied evertime! It will always be my preferred accommodation when visiting Athens. The location is excellent, close to everything important: Monastiraki, Acropolis, Plaka, Syntagma, metro station, restaurants, supermarket, etc. The metro in Monastiraki Square,5 minutes away by foot, takes you straight from and to the airport and the Piraeus port,so very conveniently located. The staff was very helpful and even stored my bag for a few hours after checking out.

This Hotel is simply amazing and worths way more than only 2-stars. Best breakfast that we had in whole Greece on a rooftop with stunning view over the Acropolis. Cosy and spacious and stylish rooms and located in the best neighborhood in Athens (at least in my opinion.) Best restaurants, nice little shops, authentic and no tourist atmosphere and only 1 metro-ride from monastiraki.
