FAQs about hotels in Cork

Irish Spirit In A Nutshell

Situated on the banks of the River Lee, Cork’s city centre was originally built on marshes and many of its popular streets are constructed on the former river channels. With a thriving nightlife and a vibrant cultural scene, the Irish Republic’s second biggest city is full of surprises.

Those interested in history should pay a visit to the Cork City Gaol, an old prison transformed into one of the city’s most fascinating attractions, or join the Cork Historic Walking Tours, which offer a great opportunity to learn all the city’s secrets.

For those craving more lively entertainment, the city offers the famous Cork City Pub Crawl or even more exciting, the Barrack Street Challenge, where participants drink pints of beer in all bars along Barrack Street.

The shopping area is concentrated around the most famous street - St. Patrick Street. For local food specialities like crubeens, tripe and drisheen, browse bars and restaurants around MacCurtain, Washington and Oliver Plunkett Streets.

When flying to Cork Airport, you’re just a short taxi or bus ride from the lively city centre. Don’t worry about accommodation; Booking.com has plenty on offer, from convenient hotels, to cosy guest houses and bed & breakfasts.

I am not a fan of large cities as a rule, but Cork is the exception. It is a lovely city with lots to see. The food scene is fantastic. I got to treat myself to beignets and a pumpkin pie at Bayou (on MacCurtain Street in the Victorian Quarter). The English Market is a must-see and my favourite place for Hederman's smoked butter. Although everyone talks about Blarney Castle for its stone, I recommend exploring the surrounding castle grounds. The Poison Garden, carnivorous courtyard, wishing steps, witches' kitchen, druids' cave, fairy glade, dolmen, and sacrificial altar have something for everyone to marvel at. If relaxing is your goal, consider checking out Zero Gravity Float (Edenhall, Model Farm Rd.) near Munster Technological University.

English Market was great.

English Market was great. Amazing stalls selling meat, breads, cheeses etc. Had a lunch in the restaurant up a level. All very friendly. Disappointed to not get into St Finbars Cathedral. Closed doors at 5pm so went back the next day, flagged as open but they put a temporary sign out saying shut from 13.00 to 14.00 so not able to get in to view.

It was raining all day first day.

It was raining all day first day. Wish we had more time, got there in afternoon, was supposed to rain next day after raining all night and it was best weather day of our trip and it was last day, Blarney castle is worth the visit, not too many people there the day we went,Thought english market wasn't worth going to see and it was expensive there I thought at the market for food.

Cork is a very vibrant, walkable, trendy city.

Cork is a very vibrant, walkable, trendy city. I highly recommend doing the get on - get off bus and getting off at any stops that interest you. There's so much more to the city than just the centre hub. The English market is great for all your fresh food needs! Meat, veg, fish, baking ... Especially if you've got a kitchen where you're staying! It was exciting to explore through there. The old Cork Gaol was very interesting. We spent hours there exploring rooms and I highly recommend the audio tour. You're not going to get the same experience from the paper tour. Our time in Cork just wasn't long enough! We had breakfast at Spitjacks ... I highly recommend! Visit the Blarney castle! Go early & try to be 1 of the first up to the stone if you're doing that ... The crowds come thick & fast & if you're back at the beginning of the castle, it can be up to an hour wait & longer. Explore the gardens ... They're full of really cool stuff! There's not really a lot to do in Blarney itself but a stroll in the garden is great!

An interesting city with several places of interest to visit. Lots of restaurant's and bars to enjoy, but recommend booking in advance as our first choice venues were already over subscribed. The people of Cork were extremely friendly and customer service was top notch.

As a Londoner, Cork felt like a much larger version of Carnaby Street; vibrant and colourful with plenty of live street music. Public transport was pretty good and using the TFI Live App for getting around via bus was very easy to use. Lots of places to choose from to eat and drink and walking around (for me during the day) felt safe and relaxing. Driving is a bit of an experience; all the major surrounding roads and quite a few connecting ones had speed camera enforcement applied to them. As a first time visitor and tourist this was quite overwhelming as the Satnav was a sea of white and red lines. Speed, road and other safety signs needed a bit of familiarisation before hand; as they would for driving in any new city of the first time. Arrival for me was via Cork International Airport; shocking queues at the Avis/Budget Car Hire Desk owing, in part, to the Payless Car Hire staff not being around and visitors being directed to the Avis/Budget Desk. Inbound passengers subject to passport control which caused a bit of a delay. No obvious toilets between airside and passport control so bear that in mind if your travel needs require access to 'facilities' Not unusual I guess as compared other destinations and the timing with other inbound flights might have been unlucky on this occasion. Flew Air Lingus from Heathrow which was punctual and overall a low-stress experience. Can't really beat the National Flag Carriers when it comes to airlines! Enjoyed a short visit to Blarney Castle; opted not to join the long wait to see/kiss the Blarney Stone. In part due to having spent quite enough time hanging around to pick up the Hire-Car. Plenty to see elsewhere, the caves under the castle are fascinating and the grounds/gardens are beautiful. Well worth a visit.

Fantastically warm welcome - with very comfortable rooms. Location is within walking distance of all city centre attractions. Plenty eating and drinking options within immediate vicinity of hotel, however popularity does have some draw-backs it is highly advised to book in advance for dining in particular during weekends. Adjoining Isaacs restaurant is a firm Cork favourite for quality and value. We will be back. Jerry

Fantastic Hotel, very clean and comfortable with wonderfully welcoming and friendly staff. They have a nice restaurant and a lovely coffee shop. It's close to the city centre and offers Cork on the doorstep. Parking is offsite but is just a short, pretty walk along the riverfront and is very reasonably priced for a city centre.

The room was nice and the staff are friendly. The hotel is very central and everything in the city centre can be easily reached. The rooms are a decent size and the beds were comfortable. We did not have breakfast so I cannot comment on that.
