We are a Belgian family (father and 2 adult children) travelling through Sri Lanka in summer 2023. Looking for a hotel at walking distance from the Horton Plains National Park we ended up in the Hill Safari Tea Estate Hotel. At the Ohiya train station (approx. 5 km from the hotel) we were picked up by the owner, Mr Perera, who was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the site. The hotel, located in a tea plantation, has a fantastic view on the Sri Lankan lowlands (comparable to that at World’s End). Just note that the hotel is quite remotely located and therefore food is taken on site (food is excellent!). We organized a trip to the Horton Plains, going (early morning) by tuktuk and returning by foot (watch out for sunburn on the way back!). We can only be (very) positive about the hotel, the owners, and the staff.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Cape House, and it was a truly fantastic experience. The service was exceptional, and our stay was nothing short of perfect. A special mention must go to the manager, Eranda. He is one of the kindest and most inventive managers I’ve ever encountered at a hotel. His attention to detail and genuine care for guests made our stay incredibly enjoyable. He was especially wonderful with my son, making him feel welcome and special throughout our visit. This is one of the newest and safest villas in the area, and from the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. We chose Meena Amma's Tea Experience because we wanted to have a closer and more genuine experience with locals, and because we wanted an accommodation close to the hiking trails of the Hortons Plains. Meena was such an amazing host. She took care of us in the best way possible. She walked with us to show us the surroundings, explained to us useful tips on Sri Lankan cuisine, and cooked for us the best and most authentic meals we had in Sri Lanka. Although, we thought that her cooking was amazing, it was a little bit salty for our taste buds. The room was nicely decorated and has the convenience of a nearly a 5* standard. Highly recommended accommodation in a strategic location close to Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains. Just beware of the entrance road to the village is not asphalted!

Almost everything.

Almost everything. Location was close to Horton Plains and the owners arranged a tuk tuk ride for a nominal fee. Lovely surrounding. Food was tasty and ample given. Really worth it. Owners were friendly and made the guests feel at home.

Located a little down from the Ohia railway station, this accommodation was very mind-blowing and received a very warm welcome with a hot cup of coffee. Very friendly staff with smiling faces. Very nice interior and clean surroundings. They own a restaurant with delicious food and charge a reasonable amount for it.

We were welcomed very warmly by the host family. They gave us a lot of tea and information and supported us with everything we needed. They made fabulous dinner and even gave us breakfast to go for the hortons plain national park. The rooms were clean and we have nothing bad to say.

Wonderful location on a tea estate, with fantastic views through the Ohiya gap (cloud permitting). Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Very nice food. Room simple but comfortable. Hot water in shower. Good base for walking in the surrounding area (weather permitting!).
