Welgevonden is a great safari venue for a quick, malaria free trip close to Johannesburg. The Waterberg area is beautiful. It also has the Big5 which is a bonus. Guests leave their vehicles at the Main gate and get picked up by the lodge they are staying at. You can only drive through the reserve in a safari vehicle with a guide. The best thing about Welgevonden is the feeling of being...
The best thing about Welgevonden is the feeling of being totally isolated. It is set into the hillside, and each chalet is far enough away from the next one to make it feel secluded. The Game drives are absolutely amazing; all the big 5 - lions, buffalo, lots of rhino, and if you are really luck leopard & cheetah - as well as hippo, giraffe, zebra, lots of antelope too. There are no private vehicles allowed in the reserve which has really helped the rhino population to recover. The reserve is well managed but the roads can be improved, the number of predators can be increased an the sightings can be managed better, the ethical rules of not stressing the animals by reducing the number of vehicles per sighting, the competition between game rangers must be managed better which will reduce the incidentsGuest review byTshepoSouth Africa
