Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama. Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience. The place is absolutely beautiful. By far one of the nicest hotels I've been in. Every detail is well thought of, and the location near Takayama Old city is great.

Just a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station, Oyado Koto No Yume offers Japanese-style rooms with a colourful touch. Location was exceptional - great base for exploring. The staff were all very helpful. We loved their restaurant recommendations and that reservations were made for us. Breakfast was also a positive experience - we tried all three options.

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. We had a beautiful room looking out over the river and gardens. Our room had a private toilet and wash basin, with access to the public/shared onsen/bath. The hosts were very amenable and friendly. Highly recommend if you want a traditional experience of Japanese hospitality.

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. The food - breakfast and dinner - was amazing.

Situated at the heart of historic Takayama Old Town and just steps away from Takayama Jinya Morning Market, the traditional Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan offers personalised hospitality, hot spring baths... This was probably our favourite accommodation during our entire trip in Japan. Not only was takayama itself beautiful to travel to by train but the hospitality at Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan was amazing and I would definitely return here when I come to Takayama next. Would definitely recommend the traditional meal experience as well! They will also pick you up/drop you off at the train station as well for no extra cost!

Chaya Hotel se nachází pouhých 40 metrů od zrekonstruovaného poštovního města Magome-Juku z doby Edo a nabízí jednoduché tradiční pokoje s futonovou postelí a podlahou tatami. Magome Chaya was wonderfully located right on the Nakasendo in the heart of beautiful Magome. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was delicious, and we were thankful our dietary needs were able to be accommodated for.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. Skvělá lokalita, dobré připojení WiFi. Krásný zážitek z tradičního typu ubytování.

Awarded in 2014 with TripAdivsor’s Certificate of Excellence, Takayama Ouan features traditional Japanese designs and tatami (woven-straw) flooring throughout. The hotel is only a 4 min walk from the station and very close to other landmarks nearby even hida folk village! The staff was amazing and the whole hotel is strictly no shoes policy. They provide comfortable socks to walk around the hotel areas which gives a very pleasant and traditional feel as all the rooms and hotel floors are tatami! The hotel also has public onsen for men and women while also providing for 3 different private onsen which during our stay did not have trouble finding vacant! All onsen are really good! The hotel also provides lots of amenities, and price included drinks, coffees, night ramen and ice creams which were delicious after having a relaxing onsen. Highly recommended for the traditional element of the rooms and the onsen! Breakfast has plenty of choices both western and traditional! I highly recommend to try the local breakfast options.

Ideally located just a 2-minute walk from JR Takayama Station and Shirakawa-go Bus Terminal, this hotel boasts a natural hot spring bath where guests can unwind. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas. The hotel had onsen with public baths. It was quite neat and clean. Excellent location near Jr station or bus station and a short 5-10 min walk across the river to the old takayama town with tourist things. The bathroom was small (but neat and clean) but we anyways instead used onsen to take bath. The breakfast was just decent and didn't live up to the good reviews we read on booking.com. Just outside the hotel, there is a small cafe run by an old Japanese lady. We loved our coffee and deserts there. Would recommend it if you crave good coffee after the breakfast buffet (it has machine coffee).
