It was a quick trip for me to get my bike fixed. I had a booking in the afternoon and went there directly. When I book a hostel, I always look for a bed with a curtain because I need privacy when I sleep. The bunk bed is comfy! The room size matches the number of guests (maximum 6 people). There is an ensuite bathroom in the dorm, but there’s also a central bathroom as well. It’s really clean! One thing I love the most is how functional the central bathroom is — there are two hangers and a shelf for my belongings. This is always a problem in some hostels because I never know where to put my clothes, towel, and shower set.
The staff are really nice; she explained all the areas to me. The kitchen is clean too. I think it was almost full because I went on a weekend, but it wasn’t chaotic like many other places. If I have a solo trip to Taupo, I will definitely book this hostel again.

We loved this place! There's a lot of shared areas. Big kitchen, lots of tables to eat, the games room with a pool and a cinema! Amaazing! The beds were very confortables. Big space also in the toilets&showers! Super warm water. All was more than expected! Internet works perfectly everywhere (very rare in NZ)

I had a wonderful time at the Riverstone Lodge! Sandra was the best host, always helpful and cheerful. The common rooms and kitchen were very clean and comfortable, and it felt like living in a flat share with other travelers. The location was also great, close to the town center, and a perfect starting point for the Tongariro crossing or fishing.

Big hostel but the manager keeps the capacity limited, so that your dorm is never full - max. 2-3 people per dorm!
Cute cat and dog onsite.
I could borrow a bicycle for free!
You can also book Tongariro transport very cheaply.
The best WiFi I've encountered in a long time. If you need to do something online, this is your place!
Ideally located accomodation for hikers/trampers. recommended for backpackers or to get some rest after a long trail. large kitchen, hot showers, Snooker in the games room.

You feel just at home here, you meet such friendly people. Sandra (the host/owner) is so nice. She loves to chat and help you with making plans in the erea. She helped me book the tongariro crossing(mordor/mt doom) and was super easy. It is one of the best hostels I had.

Clean room with beds made. Towels provided. Friendly helpful staff and excellent security measures meant I felt safe. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast at the cafe was not cheap but worth every penny. Delicious and nicely laid out cafe.

Very convivial and friendly atmosphere in the spacious kitchen. The location is great, very close to the Tongariro Alpine crossing. There is a nice little pub right beside it! It was so nice to have a family room with a private bathroom! We can hop on a shuttle right outside the youth hostel.

Honestly, the best hostel I've ever stayed at! The owners were the most welcoming, loving and caring people. They made sure to talk to everyone, they even remembered the names of every single person who stayed there at the moment. The whole place was super clean and well kept. Kitchen had everything you need for cooking. The living room is amazing to hang out, watch tv, play games or get to know the other guests (and make some new friends!). Would highly recommend staying there. You would not be disappointed!
