Experience the uniqueness of Old Cobbin Homestead, built in 1864 for Mr James Thompson, his wife and 9 children, with walls several feet thick and a history we are still unearthing. A certain A.B. (Banjo) Patterson is known to be a friend and guest of the original owner. Family albums are being searched for the photo of him in front of the Homestead. Formerly the centre of a 7,000 acre property, the original Homestead is full of character and family memories waiting for yours to be added.

Our family has always loved this area and spent many seasons skiing and hiking in Thredbo. In fact, we still have a cabin there now. I guess we are no different to many couples - when we are on holidays, we often look at the local real estate market and muse about what it might be like to renovate this or fix up that (much to our 5 children’s chagrin). Well, one summer holiday we were looking at local property again and after spending time with the farmer who had lived on this property virtually all his life, hearing the stories of bushman of old, occasional misadventure, and Old Cobbin Homestead’s important place in history - we were hooked. We left that holiday as the new owners, bringing both excitement and enormous trepidation that we would become the custodians of this incredible legacy. We plan to continue restoring Old Cobbin Homestead and Thompson’s Hut and look forward to sharing the journey with you. Old Cobbin Homestead is our family’s escape. We are here whenever we can be - loving, laughing, skiing, reading, and exploring. We love the Homestead dearly and it gives us great joy to share it with treasured guests who can enjoy it when we can’t.
