Hostemplo began in 2009, just steps away from the Sagrada Família. It was the result of a shared vision between Carlos Ruiz and Mila—life partners at the time, now business partners in a project that has grown with heart and dedication. Carlos, an architect from La Rioja who moved to Barcelona at 17, brought his passion for interior design to life, creating spaces that are both functional and full of character. Mila, originally from Extremadura but raised in Barcelona, became the creative force behind the project. From décor and housekeeping to overseeing the café, her personal touch is present in every detail. What started as a cozy, forward-thinking guesthouse with just 10 rooms soon evolved. The opening of the Hostemplo Apart-Suites marked the next chapter, and in 2015, the launch of the Hostemplo Boutique Hotel solidified the brand as a local favorite for urban, welcoming stays in the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample district. The story didn’t stop there. The next generation stepped in. Miquel Ruiz, the son of Carlos and Mila, grew up surrounded by check-ins, front desks, and breakfast shifts. He started helping with the family business at age 14, learning every role from the ground up. After earning a degree in Tourism and Hotel Management from CETT – University of Barcelona, and spending time in Italy on an Erasmus exchange, Miquel returned with a fresh, international perspective. Today, Miquel leads Hostemplo with renewed energy—blending its family roots with a focus on innovation, digital transformation, sustainability, and thoughtful growth. Hostemplo is more than just a place to stay. It’s the result of a family journey—driven by design, hospitality, and a genuine love for people.
