This unique place has a style all its own. In the foothills of the Alps lies the town of Vence, where this old farmhouse is nestled under the Baou des Blancs, surrounded by nature, greenery and walking paths, within 20 minutes walk into town, 20 minutes drive to the beaches of the French Riviera, and half an hour from Nice International airport. The area is very popular with walkers, cyclists and mountain climbers, as well as artists and sculptors.

Ours is an old farmhouse that we converted thirty years ago into a modern, comfortable dwelling. We enjoy cooking and appreciate the excellent produce that is available in this part of the world; we have paid special attention to the kitchen equipment. There are lots of herbs in the garden that you are welcome to pick for yourselves. We have installed fibre broadband to get the best connection possible in this area. This is an arid area and water is scarce, so we have dry stone walls, stone pathways and graveled areas rather than lawns, so we regret that the property is not suitable for children under twelve, nor can we take pets. Please also note that although guests have exclusive use of the pool, it is overlooked from the main house. It is not visible to anyone outside the property, but it is not completely private.

Vence rests in the foothills of the Alps, five miles inland with beautiful medieval architecture in the fortified heart of the 'city of the arts'; it boasts the smallest cathedral in France. The beauty of the landscape and light in the region has inspired artists for hundreds of years; Renoir, Matisse, Chagall, Fernand Léger, Picasso, Pierre Bonnard, Jean-Yves Klein, Raoul Dufy, Jean Cocteau have all lived and worked here in the last hundred years. Their works are in the myriad museums and galleries to be found in towns and villages dotted all along the countryside from the Italian border to Cannes. It is also famous for its exquisite hilltop villages, Eze, St. Paul de Vence, as well as its glamour from the Cannes Film Festival to the Monte Carlo Formula1 Grand Prix. The weekly food markets are colourful and vibrant, the wines produced locally are delicious and reasonably priced, there are private and public sandy and pebbly beaches and the views are spectacular. La Bergerie de la Foux is named for the natural mineral spring nearby which supplies water to over twenty fountains in the town, and the 'Baou', the Provençale name for the foothills of the Alps, is a favourite and easy climb for many visitors, from the top of which one can see from Nice to St. Tropez. There are three ski stations within a two hour drive, Isola 2000, Auron and Valberg. It is possible to ski and go to the beach on the same day!
