Only a couple of miles from Windermere and just 20 minutes by road from Coniston Water, Backbarrow is a great spot from which to explore the southern Lakes and surrounding areas. The location of the River Vista Retreat at the Ironworks development in Backbarrow is situated next to an historic monument, which is the oldest ironworks site within the Lake District. The main products of the ironworks, established in 1711, were gun carriages, cannon and cannon balls. Its blast furnace, which was fuelled by charcoal, was one of the first to be built in the county. It has now been granted special status by Historic England, the ruins of the Ironworks site have been renovated to form an integral part of the development.

Hi, my name is Lee and I live in Bingley, West Yorkshire with my wife (Wendy) and two sons. We have a passion for food and drink and the outdoors which makes the Lake District an ideal place for us. Wendy spent most of her childhood in the Lakes and introduced the place at a much deeper level when we met.
