It was originally used to garage the horse drawn coach, and the owner lives next door, and even had a piggery on the side! It’s now been converted into the lovely, detached cottage it is today and in front of The Coach House is a rectory. Built in 1839 on the site of a previous Tudor building which, being constructed of wood, burnt down leaving only the cellars intact, which are still in use today. Coniston Water, the quieter western fells of the Lake District, can be accessed for fabulous walking opportunities for all abilities. Golf is available locally at Seascale and Silecroft, and the nearest train station is at Bootle itself, only a 15-minute walk away with links to both Carlisle in the north and Lancaster in the south, so leave the car at home and head out for the day.
