Surrounded by farm land and away from the hustle and bustle of city life, The Croft is a charming 500 year old Grade II listed thatched house that once upon a time used to be the village shop and post office.
Alongside the house sits a detached, recently refurbished private annexe, originally converted from a traditional barn which offers self-catering accommodation of exceptional quality consisting of 3 comfortable double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 en suite) and a lounge/diner large enough to accommodate 6 people with fully equipped kitchen. The annexe has free wi-fi, smart TVs in the bedrooms and lounge and hair dryers in all bedrooms.
Located in the picturesque village of Marsh Gibbon, a stones throw from the bustling town of Bicester, this beautifully appointed annexe offers both a peaceful environment to kick back and relax and easy access to many attractions including the highly popular Bicester Village Retail Outlet (4 miles), Blenheim Palace, Silverstone, Waddesdon Manor, the Cotswolds, Oxford City and two train stations with fast train links to London.
The gorgeous garden with summerhouse is a great place to take it easy with a cup of tea and a good book or a cocktail in hand to watch the sun set. There is also an outside dining table and chairs adjacent to the summerhouse which is available to use for leisurely summer lunches / dinners and BBQ's.
At the end of a shared driveway with plenty of off-street parking, the annexe has its own private entrance which allows guests the ability to come and go as they please. They will also find the fridge stocked with milk, orange juice, butter and eggs upon their arrival for their convenience and complimentary tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits.
A comprehensive Guest Manual can be found in the entrance hall with detailed information about the workings of the annexe and suggestions on things to do and see in the area.
My husband Jonathan and I live on the property in The Croft (main house), and enjoy welcoming and hosting guests from all over the world. We wish to make your stay as comfortable as possible and are on hand to assist with any queries you may have and to offer guidance about what to do in the area and surrounds.
Marsh Gibbon covers an area of about 2,800 acres. It is steeped in history dating back more than 1,000 years with many of the local houses constructed out of the traditional Cotswolds stone so characteristic of Oxfordshire. The area is popular for walkers and cyclists along the foot paths and quiet country roads.
There is a lovely gastropub within walking distance of the annexe called The Plough and a village shop with post office just further along.
St Mary’s is a beautiful Grade II listed church in the heart of the village and well worth a visit. Adjacent to the church is a sought after wedding venue called Manor Barn.
Marsh Gibbon is conveniently located 4 miles from Bicester and the shopping paradise known as Bicester Village. Alternatively there is a bus stop in close proximity to The Croft with buses leaving every couple of hours for Bicester. Bicester is a large bustling town with plenty of shops including a Tesco Superstore and large Boots pharmacy.
Two central train stations in Bicester provide transport into the centre of Oxford to enjoy all that this historic university city has to offer and there are trains into the heart of London that leave every 20 minutes with a journey time of 45 minutes.
Blenheim Palace, Winston Churchill's childhood home and a popular venue for many lifestyle and music events is a 20 minute drive away to the south west and for motorsport fans the Silverstone circuit is a 25 minute drive north.
Waddesdon Manor, a highly popular National Trust property with impressive Victorian gardens is located 6 miles away. Built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in the late 19th century it is managed by the Rothschild Foundation on behalf of the National Trust and home to the Rothschild Collections of paintings, sculpture and decorative arts.
The many appealing villages of the Cotswolds are also only a short drive away and offer a wonderful opportunity to explore plenty of interesting, quirky shops and sample the local food and drink.
