The Old General Store was a home in miniature, it was cosy and comfortable and the hosts had thought of everything from a hairdryer to cafetiere to an umbrella! The breakfast was fab - homemade bread, local eggs, fruit and milk, orange juice,...

The most beautiful village full of history and charm. We had a super time at the Old General store, with freshly baked bread for breakfast! Visited the pop up pub and enjoyed music & food. Perfect location for visiting Glastonbury & Wells.

Friendly and caring hosts who, unlike AirBnB hosts who have dropped the second B from any deal, the kitchen here was thoughtfully and generously stocked.

Our Victorian cottage was built in the mid 1850’s. We are carefully trying to restore it with as many original features as possible ( a labour of love - and money!) Our annexe on the High street is part of the Anne Heeley Heritage Trail and was once the General Store run by the Higgins family (ancestors still live in the village) It is a bright, light studio with everything you need for your stay. Fast broadband has eventually reached the village and Wi-fi is good. We’ve installed DVD on the TV so you can play music or watch films etc We provide you with a simple breakfast (Bread/jams/juice/yogurt & cereals) to kick the day off and there’s a kitchenette to prepare simple meals. There is a separate shower/sink/toilet, for your use only, within the studio. There ample parking along the road outside the annexe & post office/ general store a few minutes away
We are a couple of northerners who settled in this beautiful part of the world, with our two daughters, at the end of the nineties. We love the being out and about with our two golden retrievers. We love meeting new people from all walks of life and making sure they are comfortable and happy so that they can concentrate on enjoying their time in and around our beautiful village. Our outlook - “Growing Old is inevitable - growing up is optional!
Butleigh is a sub-village of Glastonbury and a seven minute drive from the town centre. Street is a few minutes away, boasting the famous Clarks Outlet Village. Dorset Jurassic coast, West coast. Bristol, Bath and Exeter are within a hours drive. Closer to home you have Wells (smallest city in England) where Hot Fuzz was filmed and the stunning cathedral resides. We are blessed with a huge number of walks, up into the Mendips, Poldens or The Quantocks. If you’d like a more level walking gradient you have the Somerset levels and even closer you have the Anne Heeley Heritage Trail around the village with a quick peak back in time to the history of this beautiful village
