Hello, this is Kai from Minpaku Dōjō!
Drawing on my background in running a café, teaching cooking, food education, and counseling, I opened this retreat with the goal of being a “helpful host” who can support guests through both hospitality and home-style cuisine.
I was captivated by the beauty and quiet of the seaside and moved here, renovating an overgrown traditional house. I chose each tree, item, and piece of furniture carefully, keeping what could be preserved and arranging everything with my favorites. I enjoy the present “unbalanced” atmosphere, while dreaming of the harmony this place will achieve in the years to come. By the time the trees have grown into their full beauty, I hope that we ourselves will have become part of the landscape.
In this calm natural setting, I strive to offer Japanese home-style creative dishes and warm cultural hospitality. My aim is to create a space you can enjoy not only on sunny days but also in the rain. During your stay, I am happy to assist whenever needed, but I will also respect your privacy if you prefer a more independent experience.

Hello and welcome to Minpaku Dōjō.
Our villa is a private one-building retreat, surrounded by serene forest where wild kites fly, facing a breathtaking ocean view. The sun sets directly before your eyes with Mt. Amakusa Fuji in the distance. With no traffic or crowds, mornings start with waves and birdsong, nights with the soothing music of crickets.
We serve freshly smoked bacon with hand-rolled rice balls cooked in a wood-fired stove, BBQ in summer, sukiyaki or hotpot in winter. Guests may bring their own drinks. Breakfast includes hiyajiru or ochazuke, and in colder months satsuma soup with grilled rice balls. Later, enjoy freshly baked bread with potage, or join a bread-making session. The fridge is stocked with fruits, drinks, and seasonings for free use. You may cook for yourself or request us to prepare meals.
For fishing guests, we provide lunch rice balls and a space to clean and cook your catch. You can head directly to the bath after returning from the sea. Laundry service, free car wash, and airport shuttle within 1h (Kumamoto/Amakusa) are also available.
We welcome up to 5 guests (children upon request). Please enjoy Japanese hospitality in the heart of Amakusa’s great nature, with as much privacy or assistance as you prefer.
Warm regards,
Kai
