Welcome to the People's Farm. We hope you will enjoy your stay with us. People's Farm is first and foremost a homestead. The farm is located in the wet zone of Sri Lanka, close to the Kuda Ganga river and its many tributaries. The Pahiyangala Ancient Temple is a short drive away. Further on is the Sinharajah Forest Reserve. The Kalumale Tea Factory is opposite the farm, and a walk along the Kalumale Road will reveal wonderful views of the tea estates on either side as well as paddy fields. On a clear night, you will be able to see countless stars from our garden. We cultivate tea, pineapples, and maniok in addition to other vegetables and fruits. Our poultry shed houses chickens, turkeys, and ducks. This is a working farm, so please be aware that the workers will be working the farm. They are very pleasant and ever ready to help. Just be patient as their English is not the best. You can fish in our two ponds, if you wish. Just note that we do not have fishing equipment or bait available on the site. The fish that you catch will attract a charge by weight of 400 rupees per 100g. This will need to be paid to Maithri in cash. The residence is a two storey affair with the ground floor open to lodging. The second floor is closed off. There are 3 rooms on the ground floor, with one being an ensuite. There is also a shared bathroom and toilet. The kitchen is well equipped but you will have to bring your own supplies for cooking and making your favourite cuppa. Each room will be provided with extra linen and towels. There is a washing machine in the property. Please ask your host to show you how to use it. The place is ideally suited for families and group stays. This is our home away from home, so please do leave the property as you found it.

Maithri will be your host. He is the foreman of the farm. His English is very limited, so if you feel that there is a communication problem, please reach out to me, and I will try and resolve it for you. Maithri runs the grocery shop in our property and manages the workers. If you need any provisions, you can purchase them from here. There are also bigger supermarkets in Bulathsinhala, a five minute drive from our property.

Our neighbours are mostly homestead owners along with the line houses that are part of the tea estates. As mentioned earlier, the Kadu Ganga river is a short walk from the property. The Pahiyangala Ancient temple is a short drive away along with natural pools and streams that the locals will be very happy to direct you to. If you do feel adventurous, you can hop on the bus at the top of Kalumale Road and get to Bulathsinhala. From there, take the bus to Horana and then from Horana, the bus to Colombo. Alternatively, Colombo is a 1.5 hour drive away.
