Rose Cottage was originally planned around a love of art and creative spaces to be sketched and painted. Garden rooms are a feature and the colours, textures and seasons were carefully taken into consideration in the original design. From the original vineyard and wineshed, QEII covenanted NZ native bush dating back over a hundred years, olive groves, orchards, English shaped flower gardens and sculptures to the flowering cherries, native birdlife and well fenced paddocks to the Monet inspired ponds, bridges and wisteria the property is a haven for all peaceful pursuits. Facilities for horses have more recently been added, the vineyard repurposed, cottage and garden re-vamped and expanded, and further sculptures and pathways added. The native bush continues to thrive and develop with re-generated trees, ferns and palms adding to the established native Kahikatea, Pururi, Rimu, Punga, Kauri, Nikau, Totara, Taiere, and many more. There is a large population of NZ native and other birdlife living and thriving on the property including Tui, Woodpigeon, Kaka, Ruru (Morepork), Piwaka. Ducks, pheasants, chickens, sheep, horses plus a couple of classic race cars complete the picture.
Now that we are officially "empty nesters" we have the opportunity to share this wonderful cottage and property with others. Guests enjoy their own double bedroom, separate private sitting room with reading space, TV, comfortable seating and small dining table and chairs, separate kitchenette, private bathroom with shower, bath and separate toilet, and own private exterior entrance with covered parking. About us... Mark is a builder with a keen interest in classic car racing, all things "cars", gardening and music. Elizabeth's passion lies with her horses, breeding and competing Rosewood Park Gypsy Cobs. She works at Riding for the Disabled and enjoys dabbling in watercolour painting when not busy in the gardens. Close to the house is a seasonal swimming pool and there are many cosy sitting areas tucked away in the cool shaded spaces and out in the sunshine. We look forward to sharing all of this with our guests and offer the ultimate country style package of peace and quiet combined with the beauty of nature right on the doorstep.
Clevedon is a thriving country town set in a picturesque valley between , Whitford and Hunua in Auckland, New Zealand. As you would expect, there are bustling Markets (Farmers Market and Country Craft Market), beautiful native bush walks leading to stunning views over the surrounding areas, beaches and regional parks within an easy half hour drive, regional botanic gardens, art and sculpture trails, wineries and country drives close at hand. There are many shopping mall experiences within a short drive, restaurants, theatres, a local brewery, concerts, churches and cafes close at hand. During the season there are plenty of free polo matches at various grounds in Clevedon to enjoy including the renowned Polo Open in February at the Auckland Polo Club just 5 minutes away. A & P shows, showjumping, dressage, eventing and pony club/adult ride groups abound. From Beachlands the Pine Harbour Ferry provides a regular service to the Auckland CBD, enjoying views of our beautiful Waitemata Harbour, Waiheke Island, Rangitoto and Coromandel on the way.
