About Ani and Gil: Our journey as hosts began in 1986 with a thatched bungalow perched at the jungle’s edge in Yelapa, Mexico. Back then, we couldn’t have imagined how sharing our home would shape our lives — or how it would one day become a global phenomenon. Since those early days, we’ve continued to welcome guests into our homes in New Orleans, Pennsylvania, Halifax, and, for the past 10 years, in Maine. Over the years, we’ve experienced travel in all its forms — from busy work trips to leisurely escapes with family. We know how important it is to find a space that feels like a sanctuary. As both travelers and hosts, we’ve come to understand what makes a stay truly special: the comfort of having everything you need (or knowing how to find it), the ease of settling in even when you’re somewhere entirely new, and above all, the feeling of arriving at A Peaceful Oasis. The best of Portland is within walking distance - trendy Munjoy Hill (the East End), the idyllic Eastern Prom (an expansive park with playground, public tennis courts, walking trails, beach, and kayak rentals) - and a pedestrian waterfront trail leading directly into the Old Port, and further to the Arts District with cultural venues, museums, and lots of local shops. All along the way are Portland's many restaurants, breweries, and cafes that have given the city a reputation as a premiere 'foodie town'.
