Welcome to Foxfire, a secluded yet convenient Zen-paradise where breathtaking views await you in every room. Located just over an hour from Baltimore/DC, this 1800s orchard house and former Civil War hospital was completely renovated in 2023 to blend resort-style pampering with the privacy of a luxury home.
The home’s open, free-flowing design is filled with natural light, moving from the gourmet chef's kitchen—with its handcrafted black walnut table and cocktail bar—to the living room with its stone fireplace and comfortable pull-out sofa. The main level features two suites. The spa-like master is a true retreat, boasting a king Sleep Number bed under stargazing skylights and private deck access to the hot tub. Its ensuite bath is pure luxury, with heated floors and a massive 4'x6' three-headed shower. The second bedroom offers a queen Sleep Number bed and its own private ensuite.
Upstairs, the inspirational loft provides the best mountain views in the house. This funky, multi-use space includes another bed, a dedicated work-from-anywhere setup with dual monitors, yoga equipment, and its own full bath.
Outside, your private 14-acre oasis awaits. Explore forests and orchards with daily wildlife visitors, relax on one of five decks and patios, gather around the propane firepit, or soak in the 6-person hot tub.
To ensure a perfect stay, please note: Foxfire is a mountainside retreat; a 4-wheel drive vehicle is strongly advised in winter. As a lovingly restored 1800s farmhouse, it offers authentic rural charm, which may include the occasional bug or field mouse. We provide reliable business-class internet, but if you seek a perfectly sealed city building, this may not be the right fit.
Hello! We're Chris and Emily. As Maryland natives, our roots run deep here, but our story together began with a bit of modern-day luck. We first met in Baltimore in 2008 after Emily answered Chris’s Craigslist ad for a roommate—a true house-hacking story before it was cool!
What started as a roommate arrangement blossomed into marriage. Once Emily finished her degree, we felt the call of the countryside and poured our hearts into creating our "forever home" at Foxfire. Our vision was to renovate the old farmhouse into a self-sustaining homestead where we could slow down, raise our future family, and connect with the outdoors. We jumped right in, planting fruit trees, raising chickens and bees, and cleaning up the land.
In 2018, our dream grew as we learned we were expecting our son, Logan. With a baby on the way, the renovation kicked into high gear. While Emily was on a business trip, Chris decided to "surprise" her by starting demolition. She jumped right in with a smile upon her return. Our life was a whirlwind of joy and construction—so much so that on Logan's due date, we stopped at Lowe's to pick up a toilet for the contractor on the way to the hospital!
Life, however, had other plans. Our sweet Logan was diagnosed with a rare condition that required a level of care we couldn't provide at the farmhouse. Our family's journey led us to move to Florida to seek the best situation for him.
But Chris was relentless in keeping the Foxfire vision alive. He spent the next 16 months traveling back to Maryland to finish the renovation, pouring his love and determination into every detail. Today, Logan and our family are thriving, and we cherish our trips back to enjoy our Maryland home.
We couldn't keep this special place all to ourselves. We are thrilled to share it and hope you enjoy your stay half as much as we did when we lived here
