Nestled 8km from the heart of Stellenbosch, the enchanting Slaley Country House offers a picturesque escape, with breathtaking mountain vistas, complimentary Wi-Fi, and private gated parking. Guests are greeted by a serene pool, tennis court, garden panoramas, all a short distance down the road from the farm’s tasting room. Centered in the Simonsberg-Stellenbosch wine ward, the facility is conveniently located between many popular tasting rooms, wedding venues and golf courses. The venue remains a tranquil sanctuary, just a short drive from Stellenbosch's vibrant tourism hub with Cape Town International Airport 30km away. The guesthouse offers an array of amenities to offer our guests ease of stay. Each unit is equipped with air conditioning, both indoor and outdoor seating areas, satellite TV, a safety deposit box, minibar, hair dryer, and a lovely private bathroom featuring a walk-in shower. We are home to two delightful dogs and two sociable cats, eagerly awaiting the chance to charm our guests. However, to accommodate all preferences, our furry friends graciously refrain from entering guest rooms, ensuring a comfortable stay for all.

A heart warming hello to you and thank you for choosing to stay at Slaley Country House. It is important to know that you have booked accommodation on a wine farm about 8 km from downtown Stellenbosch. This means you will have to travel to town for restaurants, as most of the farming area closes at night. We are looking forward to spoiling you with our hospitality and assist you with wine tours, picnics or what ever where possibly we can, especially with Tee off times at the many wonderful golf courses around us. Please let us know if you are celebrating a special occasion, as we would like to contribute to your memories. You are welcome to book a picnic under the trees or at the pool, or order a snack platter for the evening, in advance. This means that you will not have to go to town to eat, but can indulge in our delicious platters. This however, needs to be booked in advance at least 1 day prior to arrival.

Property information

Slaley Country House is situated on the well-known Slaley Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. The estate was started in 1955 by Martin Hunting, the youngest child of a shipping empire dating back to 1874. Martin moved to the Western Cape in 1952, after completing his military service in Kenya, and decided to attend Elsenberg Agricultural Collage, despite not speaking Afrikaans. He graduated Cum Laude and purchased a farm named Simonsig, which was renamed Slaley in remembrance of the house he grew up in, Slaley Hall near Newcastle. In 1995 Lindsay Hunting, who had taken over from his father, built the farms wine cellar with the intention of producing a bolder style of red with a high capacity for aging, a legacy that he is now passing an to his children. The Slaley Guesthouse- with its beautiful en-suite bedrooms- is a lush and private establishment that stunning views and a memorable experience, right in the heart of the winelands. We pride ourselves in professional and friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere- farm pets and all- to ensure our guest to have a great time and make lasting memories.

Neighbourhood information

Stellenbosch also called the "Eikestad"or city of Oaks is one of South Africa's most visited tourist attractions, as it is home to some of the oldest wine farms in South Africa. Only 40 minutes drive from Cape Town, it is easily accessible with shuttles and tours to hiking trails, wine routes and even a toy museum. Festivals, markets and wine tasting are also at the order of the day. We therefore wish you a pleasant stay on the farm and may you enjoy our warm hearted hospitality.
