We battled to find the property as it was already dark when we arrived and Elin came to fetch us. She also took our travel weary dogs for a run whilst we were unpacking the car.

Eco-Living in the Heart of Zambia: The Honey House offers an enchanting eco-retreat on a 25-acre conservation-focused smallholding. This open-plan self-catering cottage provides rustic charm, and thoughtfully designed spaces. It has an ensuite double bedroom and a cozy loft area ideal for two children. Large windows frame views of the surrounding woodland. The self-catering facilities include a well-equipped kitchenette with a two-plate gas cooker and refrigerator. Step outside onto the private verandah to discover an inviting fire pit. The water at the honey house is mineral-rich and safe to drink. The house is off-grid- solar powered and gas water heating. All waste is recycled. Explore the property's slashed walking trails through indigenous terminalia, acacia, and combretum woodland, where lucky visitors might spot duiker, bushbuck, and abundant birdlife. There is a small library, that includes books on Zambia and its flora and fauna. The Honey House offers convenient services including daily housekeeping, and breakfast delivery, and other meals upon request (24 hour notice is needed). Special experiences include romantic sundowners in the bush and bush bbq's under the African sky. Perfectly positioned next to Lusaka National Park and minutes from attractions like Lazy J Sanctuary and Chifwema Arboretum, The Honey House invites you to experience Zambia's natural beauty close to Lusaka while supporting sustainable conservation efforts.
Your host at The Honey House is passionate, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to the African landscape. Well travelled and can assist with onward travel in Zambia and the region. As a dedicated beekeeper, she produces raw honey through ethical practices and is registered snake relocator in Zambia. Throughout the year, she coordinates various workshops—ask about upcoming sessions on traditional pottery, beekeeping, guided tree-walks and eco-building. She speaks Swedish and English, and rather poor Kiswahili.
The Honey House at Bubu Ranch serves as an ideal base to explore the diverse attractions of Lusaka's Leopards Hill area. Adjacent to Bubu Ranch lies Lusaka National Park, offering wildlife encounters without venturing far. Explore the park by foot, bicycle, or vehicle to witness plains game, giraffes, and the sanctuary's special herd of orphaned elephants. The park's recent introduction of rhinos adds excitement for wildlife enthusiasts. Don't miss the daily elephant viewing experience between 11:45-13:00 at the Wildlife Discovery Centre, complemented by the Bush Café and Lusaka Collective craft shop showcasing Zambian artisanry. A mere five-minute drive brings you to Lazy J Sanctuary, a peaceful retreat featuring maintained trails winding through miombo landscapes. Further down Leopards Hill Road is Monkey Pools, a forested area with spring-fed crystal clear pools for swimming, and a club house with restaurant. Nature lovers will treasure Chifwema Arboretum, a 30-acre botanical paradise celebrating Zambia's rich flora. Follow trails through indigenous trees and shrubs, with informative boards explaining ecological processes like carbon cycling and seed dispersion. Visit Zambean for excellent coffee and casual dining, or The Butchers Block for premium meats and artisanal foods, all along Leopards Hill Road. Sugarbush Cafe provides a picturesque setting for meals alongside shopping for homeware and gifts. Bibliophiles will appreciate Mary's Bookshop, while The Village hosts delis, restaurants, and a pub. Leo's Restaurant serves Indian cuisine seven days weekly. For active visitors, PadelPlus and Tennis along Chifwema Road offers court sports and a café serving breakfast and lunch.
