Jey, Sebastian, and their staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. We followed their advice on what to visit in the area and where to eat, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere at the house was very comfortable and relaxing, and we truly felt well taken care of throughout our stay. Buenavista is a very calm and local village with super friendly people — away from the noise of Bacalar, but close enough if you want to make a quick visit. We especially loved the breakfast – everything was fresh and delicious, with both continental and local options (the best cochinita pibil we’ve tried!). The facilities were also excellent: clean, well-maintained, and beautifully designed. One of the highlights of our trip was the sailing excursion. Sebastian took us on a sailboat through the Bacalar Lagoon, where we could see the beautiful colors of the water and take a swim. Afterwards, he treated us to some mojitos and guacamole. We highly recommend Casa Cactus and would definitely love to come back!

A terrace is available for guests at the lodge to use. Very friendly staff!, they even gave us some coconuts (mind you we asked and tipped them) The pool is daily cleaned and the rooms are in perfect condition. The rooms have AC which is a very big plus!

Some units include a seating area and/or a patio. Such a wonderful experience, it is family owned and they are so kind and helpful! My friend and I stayed for 2 nights, our room was at the very back in a big sized building with 4 or 5 seperate rooms. It was so nice to wake up and go to sleep listening to the sounds of the jungle. You arrive by boat so keep in mind you are not close to town but, there is a restaurant at Casa Maya and the food is amazing, well priced and good portions! You can rent kayaks there for a really great price and the reason we choose to stay here is there are so many things to see and explore in the area. You have to kayak or boat but its such a convenient spot to see all there is to see and if you tell the owner what you are planning they will set it up for you/ get proper tour guide/ tell you how to get there and how far things are. The lancha to and from Maya Casa is a bit pricey but that's just how it is, its the only means of transportation to and from Rio Dulce - Livingston and your gonna pay that anywhere you decide to stay in between those two places. It is worth paying especially if you are staying for 2 or more nights, just buy all you need before you leave town. There is a small convenience store 5 min kayak from Maya Casa and other restaurants too. I was more than happy to stay here and support a family business :) very reasonably priced too!

The lodge offers a barbecue. The cabins were amazing and really comfortable! They are spacious, clean, and well equipped. The bed is comfy and the net does protect you from any mosquitoes which might have gotten into the room, although I didn’t see any inside (there were many outside, but repellent kept them at bay). The staff was friendly and ready to help, and they lent us beach chairs and an umbrella to use at the beach. The pool was slightly cold, but still quite pleasant and clean! The Wi-Fi works perfectly well for working remotely, and there are sufficient power outlets inside and outside the cabins. On the TV there is Netflix and other streaming platforms. There is also a temazcal (traditional sauna) which works on scheduled days and can seat large groups. There is no kitchen inside the cabins, but there is a fridge to keep food fresh, and there is a shared kitchenette with an electric stove, near the site’s entrance, and the staff can lend you a pan to cook a quick meal. Hot coffee is prepared and served for free twice a day. There is sufficient, safe, and convenient parking space for all guests, and the staff lends you a little trolley so your luggage can be carried around easily to your cabin without getting soiled with sand. I would definitely recommend it to any traveller, and I will surely come back with my family one day! The property has one pet-friendly cabin only, so if you are coming with your pet it’s worth booking and letting them know in advance.

This villa will provide you with a TV, air conditioning and a terrace. Most units have a full kitchenette, with a microwave and a refrigerator, and private bathrooms with a shower. You can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea from the property's private veranda and palapa. This was our first "luxury" stay we've ever had, and we loved it. The room was very clean and set up nicely for us upon arrival. When we first got there, we were offered a drink and they got us checked in quickly then showed us to our room. They gave a brief overview of the room and everything available. During our stay, it was our nice little retreat when we got overwhelmed/tired from exploring, which we did a lot. The bartender was awesome and nice to chat with. The rest of the staff was fantastic as well. Not once did we feel like we weren't welcome there. Hopefully we can be back some day.
