We went there at the end of our 2 1/2 week Japan travel for three nights. This is a wonderful retreat with an outstanding Onsen experience (three mixed outside hot spring onsen pools and another one outside onsen for woman only. All have a relaxing waterfall view. We were supplied with Yukata clothing and had delicious Kaiseki meals. On our last morning, without asking for it, we received a continental breakfeast instead of the Japanese one. We participated in a nice star gazing tour and did a great hike to the marshland (about 12 km, 4 hours there and back). We strongly recommend to come for more than one night, as travel there takes almost a day.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. Literally everything. The hotel is an amazing 300+ year old guest house and scenery from the rooms is amazing. This is a must go Onsen Hotel!

Just a 15-minute walk from the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Nikko Hoshino Yado features natural hot-spring baths with Japanese garden views, traditional kaiseki (multi-course) cuisine and Japanese-style... the dinner was fantastic - a kaisen set was a delicious 7-course meal and it exceeded my expectations for dinner, and breakfast was overall fabulous as well. the indoor and outdoor onsen were great - not too many people using them so it was nice to have the onsen to ourselves. the tatami room was as expected - the complimentary tea and amenities were greatly appreciated. the location was amazing and very close to the sightseeing destinations. the staff was very helpful.

Loved the private onsen . The room was extremely comfortable. The staff was amazing . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay .
