Beautiful city with lots to do and see.

Beautiful city with lots to do and see. The food eateries are excellent, with lots of choices. My wife and I signed up to a historical treasure hunt app and this was brilliant taking us around the city with great clues to find and lots of history snippets as we went, was great value and fun.

Huntingdon has a lovely little Saturday market with vegan options, there are plenty of shops to walk around and all the usual outlets eg B&Q, Dunhelm, Pets at Home -very useful for us a few mins by car. There is a park in the centre of the town and a dog walking area. I think it is quite flat, no hills, so walking is not a problem and there is a good pedestrian area with lots of cafes in which to sit and watch the world go by. It is 8+ miles to St Neots, a beautiful little town with the river running through it. Perfect for a visit.

Second visit to Ely as we enjoyed our first visit so much.

Second visit to Ely as we enjoyed our first visit so much. The market on Saturday mornings is amazing with a great variety of stalls, including many locally made crafts. Drayman's Son a local brewery pub/craft beer place is just wonderful. Ely museum and Oliver Cromwell house are well worth the visit. The Cathedral is not to be missed. Plenty of small cafes The riverside is wonderful to walk along and sit and watch the world and boats go by. Places to eat and drink along the riverside and also a large antique/collectables centre. There are excellent links to Cambridge/London from the train station. Everything within the centre is accessible on foot.

The Town centre is full of drunks on benches at all hours of the day. There are reports of high crime compared to other towns in Cambridgeshire. It has a number of things to see such as the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, Peckover House, Elgood's Brewery and Gardens(open every Thursday) and Octavia Hill's birthplace, who was one of the founders of the National Trust.

Clean. Spacious room overlooking barley fields. Friendly staff and a tasty breakfast buffet that was all a traveller would need. Excellent value and good to know the Old Great North Road =B1043 which is clue how to get there! We ate authentic Indian cuisine at the Resto next door and took good Value diesel at the 24/7 pumps also next door.

I lived in Cambridge for a couple of years in the mid-60s,...

I lived in Cambridge for a couple of years in the mid-60s, during which time I did not get around to doing any of the tourist bits, being too busy with everyday life & thinking I could do it later! My oldest Granddaughter is now studying at Cambridge University & I managed to visit her there late this year - short stay because we are both busy. As is not uncommon, I find, I managed to pack in more 'tourist sightseeing & experiences' in the short period of my visit in Nov 2025 than in the whole of the time I lived there, visiting my granddaughter's college in the university, walking through the extensive parks & the thing I most wanted to do but had not done before: punting on the Cam, my granddaughter reclining in the back of the vessel, taking photos (but none for public consumption). Yes, many parts of Cambridge are well worth visiting, though some domestic housing, & routine shopping areas, are unattractive. It is easy to walk around the the attractive areas of interest to tourists. There are some beautiful old buildings, places of historic & architectural importance & many open scenic areas, all concentrated in a relatively compact area in the city centre, with plenty of good places to eat, drink &/or be merry.
