Caravan was spotless and beds very comfortable (also loved the “is it me you’re looking for” gift of essentials that I did actually forget to bring with me! Van heats up really quick and everything was easy to use (I always struggle with gas appliances but these worked first time every time) bedding was provided but no towels. Caravan park itself if great, very clean, everyone is pleasant and happy to help, there’s a play park (well maintained) a bar (reasonably priced drinks and bar snacks and an arcade attached to it for the kids and big kids) and shop/reception (where you check in, the shop part is pretty basic, more for “oh I forgot xyz” so I’d pop to a supermarket for all your bits) within walking distance (7mins to be precise) of an inn for all day food and drinks, there’s fields surrounding caravan park with sheep, goats and horses, there’s rabbits everywhere (daughter was obsessed with those and spent hours looking for and counting them) 20-30 mins drive and you can go to dalscone park or Mabie farm park.

It was a long day driving from London. I reached the mill forge after 5 PM and I picked up the key from the bar as the reception was already closed. The 2 ladies there are very polite and kind and we ordered a dinner as well. I liked the location and facilities and I took nice photos Breakfast is good as well although not much options there but Mr. Richard was very nice and helped us a lot.

We go to Stranraer as it’s just the right length of trip for a short break. We always stay at the North West Castle Hotel due to its relaxing atmosphere, large rooms, cleanliness standards, pool and hot tub and great dining experience. The views to and from Stranraer are spectacular, making the whole holiday a lovely break. People are friendly and kind, the town has nice cafes and shops, there are a few parks. Stranraer’s location makes it ideal for surrounding sightseeing - Portpatrick only minutes away in the car.

Value for money? better than, helpful staff? excellent.

Value for money? better than, helpful staff? excellent. For a hotel in such a busy area with the amount of footfall it receives, it is a very well kept property. It was early March on our visit and to wake up in the morning with a view across the lake it surpassed our expectations. It is easy to recommend the Days Inn at Lockerbie.

I arrived when dark so was pleasantly surprised in the morning at how lovely the town was. Very traditional and atmospheric with a curving beach which was rocky in parts but with small stretches of clean sand. The promenade ran the length of the beach. The area around was attractive countryside and farmsteads. Not at all commercial so don’t expect too many amenities but there are cafes, etc. I’m sure there are some lovely walks in the immediate area but didn’t stay long enough. Would love to go back and explore further.

Newton Stewart was and I suppose still is the big town close to the village where most of my family came from, so I have an affection for the place that is steeped in decades of trips back to Scotland for reunions, birthdays and special events most of which happened in the Newton Stewart hotels ... so my experience has always been tinged with excitement and fun and I've always found it friendly, welcoming and a town ready to have a good time. Great pub food along the high street, a solid chippie in the main square and ideally located for a jaunt around the south and Wigtownshire.
