The hotel feels like one big Japanese spa. No shoes inside at all, free onsen facility and free ramen every evening. Most guests enjoy these facilities at the end of the day and are wearing the super comfy Japanese pygamas provided. Staying here was a lovely experience.

The room was huge, a family could comfortably stay for multiple nights (2 double beds and a fold out sofa). There was even a large kitchen for budget travellers. A konbini, 2 washing machines (¥300) and dryers (¥100) even a communal bath in the basement -if you haven’t used one on your trip it gives you an idea. The bathroom was clean and the tub regular size with great hot water. My daughter and I felt very safe here and she really enjoyed making origami with the staff. We used it as a base to explore beautiful Nara prefecture. The Kintetsu station was an easy walk from here. I loved waking up to our view every morning.

The meal was inspirational and the chef was so kind and carefully explained all the dishes to my wife and I, even though we spoke no Japanese. The passion and love show in each dish. The room is hyper modern, I was blown away. The open air bath was blissful, and all the little touches like free snacks, beer, ramen etc The other staff were kind and helpful and brought my wife some items she needed ASAP.

The room was very clean and, as for the amenities, were fully provided. On the 6th floor it has the Japanese dai-yokujo (huge baths, devided by gender). Best location possible, as, once you arrive at Nara and get off the train, it's on the same level of the train station: you. can drop the luggages and start your sightseeing. It provides different restaurants, such as the Japanese Teppanyaki, where the ingredients were supreme, including the wagyu (tried this food exp).

This was by far our favorite hotel we stayed at during our trip in Japan. The place is located next to a kofun which makes the area so peaceful and quiet. At night you could hear the crickets and cicadas while being in your private hot tub in your private little garden. The room was very, very spacious, beautifully decorated. I wish we had planned more days in Nara, so we could spend more time in this little oasis.

Located a five minute walk from ‘Nara Park’ and the main shopping/dining streets, Hotel Asyl Nara is conveniently central. Helpful and friendly staff, nice Onsen and delicious breakfast - all for a very good price! Room was spacious and quiet. A lovely, little shop with local gifts in the lobby. Added bonus was the Saturday night, Golden Week free bar. Family oriented and cozy atmosphere.

A beautiful and cozy hotel you can relax in. The room in the main building was large, quiet, and had a lovely view. The tearoom / bar area is a perfect spot to relax. The restaurants on premises are lovely. You will need a reservation for meals, I had no issues booking these on the day. The gift shop has great souvenirs.

Super big rooms (all the premises, actually) with one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in Japan, everything is spotlessly clean, the public bath is beautiful, the staff lovely, and there's a free shuttle bus to both JR and Kintetsu Nara stations. And all of this princess treatment for an unbelievably low price.

Nara has a lot going on.

Nara has a lot going on. Lots of wonderful food, decent shopping and the Park is huge! There is way more to the park that is initially revealed in tourism blogs. We really loved early morning walks thought the park without the crowds. We spent 3 days there, and felt like it was perfect.

I really enjoyed my stay.

I really enjoyed my stay. The area is peaceful and the hotel has a very relaxed, but high-end vibe, minus amenities like pool, gym, restaurants. Although they have a nice restaurant next door with grocery/gift shop. The staff are wonderful and make you feel very welcomed! The hotel is at a base of the mountain and is outside the city which is worked for me, but if you need to be in the center till late, you will need to chip out the $10 taxi ride from the station. Will definitely visit again!

i liked the Kashihara Jingu and the visit to various burial places of former tenno. on my last day, i visited the Omiwa Jinja; there is an observation hill where you could watch the sunset over Kashihara city. walking around town however, you can notice the signs of declining population and abandoned shops. there are a few good ramen shops in the area if you know where to find them, like Saika Ramen, highly recommended for its spicy flavour.

Visited in autumn for the autumn colours, but it was warmer than expected so there weren't many colours. Silver lining was that is was very quiet! No lines for the stores, as there might have been in cherry blossom season or when the colours were full. Really enjoyed walking the mountain.

Nara is my favorite place in Japan.

Nara is my favorite place in Japan. It has really beautiful natural environment, lovely deer that you can easily see while walking on the street, and very friendly people. It has played a very important role in Japanese history (e.g. Horyuji, Toshodaija, etc. are important world heritage sites), but it does not have that many visitors as Kyoto, which makes traveling in Nara a lot more pleasant than travelling in Kyoto. I highly recommend people to travel to southern part of Nara Prefecture (e.g. Horyuji, Asuka-dera, Tsubosaka-dera, Oka-dera, etc.).
