Lovely secluded villa style hotel right on the lake we stayed to visit the new pearl bay water park near by so that kept us busy. Has a boat ride on bolgoda and used their swimming pool but a bit off the beaten track for things to do but if you want rest and relaxation it’s a lovely serene place. The staff very attentive and food was good

We spend a night in this hidden paradise with old-fashioned vibes. The territory of the hotel well maintained, surrounded by different trees which shades the entire area. There is cozy cafe with fresh sea food and extremely friendly staff. The room was big enough and had all basic needs such as AC, fridge, hot water, mosquito net and terrace with chairs ( ground floor). The room was cleaned, however with a bit old fashioned furniture. The villa has direct access to the ocean. The beach line looks endlessly with palm trees along it. The villa has its own surfing instructor with proper equipment. The waves were good enough to learn surfing. We really enjoyed surfing experience with Dinusha there. Strongly recommend the hotel with its relax atmosphere!

My experience at Ayana was nothing short of extraordinary. The quality of service was impeccable — every detail was handled with care and professionalism. Our stay at this hotel was unforgettable for our family. Beautiful surroundings, excellent cuisine, peace and quiet. The staff of this establishment is impeccable, always smiling and kind. The chefs who really appealed to us were the ones who were willing to fulfill whatever we could think of, always interested in how we liked it. But the one who really became our hearts was our butler Manju.. not only did he take great care of us, but he was always available to us, no matter what we needed. He was not just a butler for us, but also a friend and always smiling friend of our children. Manju takes his job very seriously and tries to do his best for his guests. On behalf of our entire family, we would like to thank all the employees of this hotel, including the ladies at the reception, the gardeners and the boys who looked after us and cleaned the room, and last but not least the lifeguards. Thank you.

Extraordinary place, super friendly staff. The warm welcome by our hosts made you feel at home immediately. The pool is one of the biggest in Sri Lanka with a real pool bar. Breakfast was super tasty, a wide range of different food to choice from. In the hotel bar you could taste the best cocktails while playing snooker & pool all with a live band in the background. Every staff member took the time for a friendly chat and were very compassionate and flexible Special thank you for my friend the porter who was smiling all the time and off course Amanda, our host, who combines professionalism with friendliness as I never have seen before.. Always available for a friendly talk and very resourceful.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough! It is a perfect relaxing and calming place, surrounded by nature, the sea on one side, the lake on the other, all in the middle of trees and flowers. The staff is amaaaazing, from the reception to the swimming pool service, the restaurant staff, and a special thank you to Mr Dinesh whose room service was just impeccable. Mr Dinesh is definetely the best room service provider i've ever encountered, and he is also a really pleasant individual :) And let's not forget the delicious food! Everyone at Avani is doing their best to make your stay wonderful. Finally, a bravo for the decorator of this hotel, flawless! I will come back for sure.

The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of...

The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint. However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good. As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work. Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments. Overall, this felt more of a 3-4 star hotel than 5 star.

Poor staff service during our visit while it was raining Unfortunately, they did not provide any umbrellas, and the staff did not seem concerned about the situation. However, the property is in a fantastic location, and I would still recommend it for a visit. It’s worth noting that the Sri Lankan economy has been affected by political issues, which had a significant impact on the tourism industry. Many employees currently working in this sector are relatively new, which may explain some of the service shortcomings we experienced.

The hotel itself probably needs an uplift e.g. pool deck is old, pool lounge chairs are broken, walls need a new coat of paint, however we enjoyed our stay as the pool and hotel surroundings are quite nice. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Room was large and air cond worked well, beds are big. Bathroom needs updating but shower was strong and good temperature. Overall, a good hotel but don’t expect 5 stars.

A short distance from Colombo, Katutura is ideal for a long weekend if you are based in Colombo. There are plenty of things to see in the area and you can always arrange a visit to Galle through your hotel.
