Leels Cottage absolutely exceeded our expectations, the cottage really is a luscious private haven and I wouldn’t change a thing. The room is so stylish and the photos don’t do it justice. The safari was absolutely amazing and Leel pulled over a couple of times to collect litter, one piece would have been particularly harmful to the wildlife, which shows his care and commitment to his job and the animals. Leel always maintained a very respectful distance to animals, which worked very much in our favour as one elephant approached us and grazed a metre from the truck. The safari breakfast made by Leel’s wonderful mum and wife was incredible, they really know how to do a picnic breakfast. The dinner we had at Leels was perfect, we could not be more impressed. 10/10 stay

The place is an absolute gem, it is truly worth a 10/10. To start with the room, is is the most comfortable bed and pillows we had in Sri lanka, a great outside bathroom with no bugs, but with homemade soap and shampoo. There is so much love being put in the place, it really is just so nice! Also the common area has such a nice vibe, the swimming pool is so refreshing (we swam everyday) and the food that is cooked is so delicious. Honestly the best food we had in Sri lanka, also the breakfast was so delicious and fulfilling. They also are super helpful and arranged our safari into udawalawe for us and help us get the bus to ella. The mom and son and the rest of the staff are so thoughtful and attentive, really special stay for us.

With out a doubt one of the best locations in Sri Lanka where we have stayed in the last 3 weeks! A big room, which was extremely clean. Great bed, and perfect shower! And really close to the park. The manager and his team do everything to help you out for the park visit. And the chef makes sure you don’t have to go to the town. By the way; there isn’t anything in the town anyway, so better stay at the hotel for lunch and dinner. 👍🏻

Beautiful, quiet location. The lodge is excellent, the best quiet environment I had in Sri Lanka, the jacuzzi tub is perfect for a dip after a long safari. The owner and staff are very friendly. The lodge also organized my private safari and my guide, driver Janaka, was excellent. I actually liked my Udawalawe safari better than the one I did in Yala.

We had an excellent stay. We are a family with 3 small children. We asked to arranged us a transfer from Ella to the accommodation and we got a lovely driver, he arrived on time, we highly recommend him and he also drove us to the next destination. We could just trust him for a safe trip and it was an excellent Van with air conditioning and room for all our things. The place arranged us a safari tour with the guide name Lasa. The owner of the place prepared an excellent meal for us for breakfast so that we could eat at the safari, a large and delicious breakfast.  The guide Lasa was really nice, helped with everything, explained everything, made us a really good and fun experience with the kids in the safari. We highly recommend to take him.  The restaurant in the hotel is tasty, we had both breakfast and lunch and everything was delicious. Everyone is so nice and helped with everything. Highly recommend to come for hospitality

So, I've stayed at Hotel Athgira 5 times before. Never had a single complaint. This time the pool was being renovated so was moved to Athgira River camping.. Hotel Athgira is wonderful, I would have no hesitation going back .. but Athgira River Camping .. W O W! I usually stay for one night in Udawalawe to go on safari and visit the transit home .. I genuinely could have stayed at River Camping for a month. The whole team are warm and welcoming. The surroundings are idyllic .. quite literally the perfect place to forget your worries.. on arrival I took a video for my folks at home and a total stranger, on a sunbed around the pool (there are 2 of them!) .. just looked up and said to me "welcome to paradise" .. I can't say any more than that!

The rustic charm and quirkiness of the treehouse exceeded expectations. The staff we’re fantastic and took us on a private safari in Udawalawe (about 25 minutes away) where we got so close to the elephants. They also arranged a guided canoe trip on the nearby lake - sadly no bathing elephants this time but plenty of other wildlife to see. The evening meal we had there was perhaps the best curry I have ever eaten and all of this at exceptionally good prices. We spoke to several people who went to Yala and spent far more, saw far less and didn’t seem get anywhere near the experience we did.

the location was really good. the hotel looked exactly as the pictures portray. staff was amazing, they were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond what was expected of them. especially our waiter Nirwan Uimukthi. the hotel is perfect if you plan on doing a safari. they organised everything for us at a reasonable price and the safari company they work with provided an amazing experience (great driver who knew where to spot animals, knew how to behave around them and even prolonged our safari so that we could spot an elephant family without additional charge).

It is a very tastefully done boutique Safari hotel. The entrance is so welcoming and the views from the dining deck is so scenic specially during sunset. The rooms were very spacious with interesting artworks and great views of the river and forest. The bathroom has a special feature of an outdoor rain shower. The best part was the warm welcome by Mr Dammika and his team. They prepared excellent juices for us and the food was great too! You really don't need to step out of the hotel once you have checked in unless you are going for a safari.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave us an extra early checkout at 5am due to us going on safari at 0530. The pool area was also very nice, and the room was clean and beautiful. It was also pretty close to the entrance of the Udawalawe National Park.

The manager of the camp was extremely kind and available to chat, to show us around. The tent are perfect: very big and with all the services you might want. The food was very good. We had the best experience. Couldn’t ask for anything different!

Very friendly staff gave a warm welcome. The welcome coffee was the best time of my life. Not only that, I was surprised because the pool was so clean and beautiful. And another best option is that my friends also went on safari with them so we organized the safari with them. The driver is very friendly and has 10 years of experience. Thank you for everything.

This place is one of my favorites in Sri Lanka! It was such a beautiful surprise! Calm area, very nice outdoor setting, the room was very spacious (as was the bathroom!) So let's talk details: - Food: Amazing! Home cooked food, with candlelight and the sounds of nature! - Safari: He was a very good company during my trip! He gave me some tips, was very flexible with my requests. - Helpfulness: Arranged a taxi to my next destination, Overall, it was totally worth it, you will really enjoy it! !

Where to start... We had a wonderful stay!

Where to start... We had a wonderful stay! Our host Ravidu is a very kind man, he welcomed me and my girlfriend into his family. We will forever be grateful for the special memories created there. His wife cooked us delicious traditional Sri Lankan food at night. Thank you very much ☺️ The bed is extremely comfortable and the room is spacious and very clean. It was nice to have a place to hang out on the terrace. There are many beautiful plants around the property that give it a jungle feel. We saw many tropical birds around. I 100% recommend booking a safari through Ravidu, he partners with a guide with many years of experience. The safari guide was knowledgeable about the animals and different species we saw on the safari. He was very respectful of the wildlife and drove slowly through the park unlike other jeeps..!!
