GermanyA really nice surprise is that coffee, hot chocolate and tea are 24h free for all guests and the kitchen can be used any time, which adds a welcome option for lunch and dinner since restaurants in Tromso can be quite expensive.
The Rooms are very cosy, the staff helpful and friendly and the common bathrooms were always clean during our whole stay. We also took the Northern Lights Tour offered by the hotel and can also really recommend it.

This was a last minute booking when we were caught with a snow storm and our car went into a ditch.
We managed to snag a holiday home for 2 nights in December 2024.
The home faces the sea and fjord , it was stunning even if it is only 3h of daylight.
Every holiday home is ideally placed to get the best view.
Kitchen is well equipped you can cook up anything there.
We appreciated the attentive and well mannered staff they were kind and never impatient with us.
Our heater tripped in the night and they came to repair it immediately on realising it - no direct communication with the concierge at the main hotel so we had to walk to the main hotel in the snow (we enjoyed the walk though - no cars and the landscape with cottages were beautiful anyway)
We built snow men at our private terrace and we had the entire large living space to ourselves. It was luxurious.
Tip: there is a professional (or family run - depending on how you look at it) husky ride facility called “Into Nature” just 5 minutes away. We went there , they were the absolute highlight activity of our entire Scandinavian trip. Quentin was a great host very informative and friendly. The dogs were well cared for and happy and obedient. The landscape they run the husky ride is out of a fairy tale - try them!

My stay around New Year's at this accommodation was nothing short of magical. The opportunity to witness the Aurora Borealis in such a peaceful setting was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I couldn't recommend it more for a magical and unforgettable getaway

My trip to Sommarøy was split between two separate reservations - so two separate reviews :) This is my 2nd time at this wonderful hotel... enjoyed every second of my stay!! My room on the 3rd floor was beautiful - perfect size, clean, comfortable, loved the balcony and the amazing view. The whole hotel is very clean, tidy and well organised. The breakfast was excellent - great choice and very relaxed. All staff are super kind and very helpful. It's a beautiful location and always feels like such a special place to visit.

A great getaway from populated areas and into the nature with big windows looking at mountains and forest. Enjoyed the jacuzzi after a dip in the cold sea water. Suggest visiting by car so you can also go to the must-visit places listed in the property's guide for tourists.

A great place to stay in a beautiful corner of Northern Norway. If you are traveling alone, make sure to book the bunk bed room. It has better view than most other more expensive rooms. May be a bit tight for two people, though.

December was the perfect time to visit.
December was the perfect time to visit. Christmas decorations added to the beauty of the city, and the snow made it magical. It's a small city with all the sights I wanted to see, and excursion pick up points are between a 10-15 minutes walk from The Dock hotel. A walk across the bridge to the Arctic hotel and on to the cable car took about 40 minutes. The view from the mountain top over the city was spectacular - the wind was blowing quite strongly and made the 'feels like' temperature drop dramatically. It's very cold in the city (between -3 to -13), so thermal clothing and footwear are essential, especially on excursions either at sea or on land.

A gateway to other areas like Lofoten. My recommendation is to stay further afield to the full extent you can. as things like quiet, darkness and views all improve a lot away from the airport.
And once you do... it can be magic.

The price was too high for the poor accommodation we had...
The price was too high for the poor accommodation we had during our stay in the lodge: the apartment we booked was not available at our arrive and they move us to a cabin with old furniture, that it looked like it hadn't been cleaned well, the terrace was partially occupied by old furniture. We had the impression to be in a location very good during the Summer time, but not yet ready to welcome customers in April-May: the apartment we booked should have been definitively more comfortable and with better spaces then the one the move us, considering the rate we paid for our stay! We will not recommend this accommodation to others!

Very picturesque island, two days is more than enough to explore it. Sunshine is a rarity. End of season mid August. Place for camper vans to park. One shop and one cafe. You can buy only beer in a shop, no alcohol. For a harder spirits you need to travel to Tromso. Bring your food if you can, shops sells very simple and not very good staff. More or less decent meal you can have in an arctic hotel, which is pricey and just ok, no more, choice is limited.

I enjoyed the amazing views as well as the peaceful environment. The apartment was neat and had everything I needed.
The bus ride into town was a great way to see more of Tromso even though it was 30 minutes each way. I loved it.

Tromso scenery is amazing.
Tromso scenery is amazing. We have been in summer and winter. So much to do. We hired a car the first time and drove around the many islands. This time we used public transport which is great. There are many hotels to choose from. Plenty of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shops. Some tourist things are within walking distance, other things you will need to book a tour.

The city itself is not necessarily special or historic (though some bits are) but the area around the city has some great scenic walks and of course the outlook across the sea/bay is stunning at any time of year, but particularly in the blue hour of the winter days. Lots of buses run regularly to outlying areas and there are fast buses to the airport to connect with flight check-in times. Take a walk along Stien langs sjøen (path along the shore) to the Trondenes Historical Museum (great wee cafe there) and the Adolf cannon from WW2.

I found it confusing at airport initially where shuttle bus was and located local buses instead. I was surprised roads and pavement not gritted like UK making walking difficult in places. Kerbs piled with snow make buses hard to get on and off. Cathedrals closed in day so you can't view. I heard cable car currently like a building site so declined that trip. Polaria is good to visit, Troll museum if you like Lord of the Rings and good for kids. Whale watching superb views. Reindeer feeding and lucky to see Northern Lights a must. Easy to use buses.

A transfer to the AirPort would be nice.
A transfer to the AirPort would be nice. Its one kilometer dangerous road and much heavy traffic. Taxi cost: 350 :- for drivning 3 minutes.
We booked to be near the airport so it was a disapointment.
