The bathroom view is undefeated, you will be directly facing the forest while showering and using the restroom.
The staff is the kindest and very welcoming. You will for sure feel at home during your stay !
Last but not least, every people I met there was lovely. There’s definitely a special energy there.
If you plan to stay in Big Island I highly recommend you to choose to stay there, you won’t regret it.

With the ocean breeze, the A/C was definitely not necessary. Close to tons of great restaurants and coffee shops. Wifi was slow in the mornings but still worked, and worked great at night. It worked in our room just fine. We didn't need to; the lobby staff was incredible; the rooms were clean and comfortable.

The informations and hospitality were excellent and we really enjoyed the nature and cooking outside.
One note: As you are that close to nature, you will see some insects inside your home - but on the other hand you have chicken and Hawaiian Geckos greeting you in the morning.

We stayed at the Lodge for 3 nights and fall in love immediately. The staff was very friendly, the room was absolutely cute and perfectly cleaned and the dinner at the Lodge was excellent (you should try the Volcanoes wine made in the area!). Drinking water and parking were for free. The location was great, since we were there for hiking in the Volcanoes National Park, which is only 5-10 mins drive away. You can use the fire place in the common area for free and enjoy a relaxing evening. There is no TV in the room, which we loved. Time to talk and read a book. A rain forest nature trail belongs to the Lodge's area as well.

The Garden Suite was just beautiful. It had a real “cottage” feel.
I also extended my stay and had to move across into the “Papa” room, which was a different style (modern) and just as enjoyable to stay in.
The grounds are so picturesque, with beautiful gardens.
I also wanted to extend my stay a second time (because the Volcano had started erupting!). And even though there was no availability there, John was so helpful and found me a room at a place a couple of streets away. And that enabled me to see the awe-inspiring erupting volcano. What an experience!

Really quirky rooms, loved it !
Location: 5 min drive to the entrance of the Volcano park..( we were so lucky to catch an eruption ! )
Short drive to store. Hardly any restaurants ,Kilauea Lodge, a Thai restaurant and Volcano Lodge that is about it!
Room: Very nice comfy, clean, microwave, coffee machine, small fridge. We brought our breakfast with us.
Decor particularly in the bathroom is quirky ,large shower nice soft towels, toiletries, hairdryer.

We went on a ghost tour to learn about the history of Hilo -...
We went on a ghost tour to learn about the history of Hilo - and so many wonderful myths and legends and ghosts stories in the center of town! We loved the outdoor things we could do - from lava tubes, to volcanoes, to great views of waterfalls. The people we met were very friendly. The food EVERYWHERE was excellent (and we looked/tasted everything local). We wanted to go to the observatories, but our car rental was not an off-road vehicle, so we couldn't go on the roads to the top. The parking to the touristy part of center of town was very convenient. Kona was only a 2hr drive away, but we liked Hilo better, since it was friendlier and less crowded.

Volcano National Park was amazing.
Volcano National Park was amazing. Watching the volcano ooze and then erupt was amazing. But even without that, the views of what Mother Nature can do were awesome. And the town nearby, Volcano Village has a great little art house and a couple of reasonable and good restaurants.

Location is a beautiful escape, I could stare at the ocean all day. The house is very nice, extremely clean. I really liked my room. I like the clothing optional idea. It’s a drive to grocery store, gas, restaurants, I really enjoyed the Thai restaurant in town, but again a drive away.

Keaau is an authentic neighborhood on Hawai'i Island vs. a manicured resort. You will get a feel for what it is like to live in Hawai'i, amid the beautiful nature. It is not super close to swimmable beaches, however there is a waterfront park in the neighborhood where you can see the surf pounding against the lava rocks. There is also a local farmer's market nearby. Hilo town is about 11 miles away and has good shopping and some restaurants. The volcano is about a half hour drive away and definitely worth visiting.

If you are looking for a fancy hotel room, this might not be your place. If you are looking for a Acofortabe place to stay and get a night's sleep so you can go explore what Hawaii has to offer then this is a good option to put a little more money in the exploring budget.

This is a walk back in time, history of the plantation era.
This is a walk back in time, history of the plantation era. Updated Inn in a sleepy little town. There are a few restaurants and Vintage shop and everyone is friendly. It is a short drive to the Akaka Falls and only about 20min to Hilo. There are many "jungle" walks to explore in the area and an amazing botanical garden on route to Hilo.

It's a shared accommodation with the host staying at the garage and other bedrooms occupied by other guests. Lots of variations of coffee available for breakfast. Apples, bananas are available as well. No dishwasher available. So you need to wash the dishes yourself. Kitchen is adequate with all the necessities. Location is good. Hilo is 20 miles away. Volcano is 30 miles away. Open parking outside the house. Bathroom and bedroom was neat and clean.

I LOVE Hilo!!! It still holds "The Essence of Hawaii." It is not overrun with tall modern buildings, and "Tacky Tourist Attractions." It maintains an Old Hawaii Charm. You're not overwhelmed with street performers and aggressive sales people trying to pull you into their cosmetics stores. Yet there are still some homeless people there which is not good. However, I feel very safe in Hilo. There are nearby beautiful gardens and great beaches! Hilo is surrounded by so much natural beauty. There are some great restaurants there as well. I really like all of them, and I make sure to have at least one dinner at Hilo Bay Cafe. I also always make sure to visit the Imiloa Astronomy Center by UH Hilo. It is an excellent place to learn about the history & culture of Hawaii. And their planetarium has amazing presentations!

It is close to Volcano National Park.
It is close to Volcano National Park. In the park, there are many scenic hiking trails, interesting natural wonders, and with luck, an eruption. Facilities in the town are minimal, with limited dining and groceries.
