Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe room I stayed in could clearly use some work. It wasn't exactly dirty, just not in the best shape. I also had a traffic light just outside my window which made it very difficult to sleep at night. I understand that this is not the hotel's fault, but a thicker blind would be appreciated.
I booked a room because The Palmerston was close to a conference I was attending. I was relieved that the room wasn't as bad as some of the other reviews would suggest, although it was not "great". I appreciated the microwave and fridge, and the bed was comfortable enough. The location and price to value ratio are by far the main features of this place. I suspect I will be returning to Toronto in the near future and, if I'm traveling alone, I will definitely stay here again.

United StatesFacilities as a whole were a little worn out. Can hear everything (but it wasn't too loud).
The single room with its own bathroom had everything I needed. It was clean and had a cute B&B feel. Check-in was easy and the neighborhood was very cool and not far from downtown.

United StatesThe homeless little village of tents in a public park across the street was an eyesore. More shocking, the City of Toronto allows this. At least in downtown, where the rich don't live and only crowd the streets when sports games are playing. These dates April 11-22/2024 were supposed to be canceled. I will phone Vu ( manager) to check this.
VU. Staff and guests from across Europe, Australia. New Zealand and England. Everyone cleaned up after themselves, set a good example for all of us. Fun place, excellent restoration of 1900s row houses.

United StatesAccommodating Staff. I had an issue with getting into the hostel when I arrived and was immediately helped with the manager. It's all you need in a hostel: a bed, a shower, a good location, and at a very reasonable price.

Fairly clean and surprisingly quiet room. Great location, perfect for walking to most of the sights. Complete contactless check-in/check-out possible

United StatesNo.,place to hang anything. Shower, sink, needs hooks for. Nowhere to sit outside of room, common area.
The Palmerston is well run, clean, and Host is very helpful. Vu is perfect for the job, and has the patience of a Saint. The Palmerston is an old, room by the hour hotel. Amazing that it survived and is still in use. Security good.

CanadaThere was no thermostat/way to control the temperature in the room - no aircon or heater controls. Fortunately, the temperature was not too cold during our stay. The shower and toilet were interesting as it had glass walls that was open at the top, with curtains. What I presumed but didn't get to confirm was whether the smell would spread to the entire room if one used the loo. :) I suppose in such a situation, it would be better for the other person to leave the room and return after some time when the smell has dissipated.
Location was great, usually 1-2 short tram/bus rides away from where activities are happening in Harbourfront and Old Toronto. We booked a private room (not the dormitory, which is also available in the property) and it had a bench running along one side of the room. This was convenient for sitting and placing one's belongings.

PhilippinesIt is good for a night if you just need somewhere to spend a night. The room has 4 beds and because it is sharing you really cannot move around. The sink is outside the washroom so you cannot really use it once the lights are off.

NetherlandsClose to a busy road, which will give you a bit of noise during the night. Toilet is 'not very private', because it is behind a clear glass wall in the room. The room could have been a bit better cleaned.
Small room, hence the price. Located near a tram which brings you fast to downtown. Good bed and shower.

AustraliaI paid for the standard studio instead of the double room as the description for the standard studio is said to have a kitchenette inclusive of a stove. The images of the room also show a relatively well equipped kitchenette as described. Images show stove, chopping board and plates. As such I paid the extra for the studio over the double room so that I could save money on eating out. I had purchased groceries upon check in. When I arrived there was a microwave, kettle and coffee machine with two mugs. No plates, stove or cutlery. I messaged the host stating I booked a room with kitchenette and did not have any cutlery or crockery. I was provided with 2 plastic knives and forks and 2 paper plates for a 4 night stay and told these items are not routinely provided. In an ideal world I would like the price difference between the studio and standard room refunded. On my last day I messaged early in the morning asking if I could leave my bag somewhere for a few hours. I never got a reply. The bed and bathroom were fine. I did find someones old underwear on the floor near the bed. It could be a bit noisy and could hear shouting at times from outside. Decent walk (45mins) to the main tourist attractions/ area but plenty of food places around You were also unable to adjust the room temperature. It was quite cold.
Check in was easy. Was Emailed codes to get in with and no issue with codes. Walkable to public transport
