Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaExcellent location. Good accommodation near ski lifts, friendly staff, good breakfast. Beds futons on the floor which is ok for a few days. We had two rooms and a bathroom on our floor which worked perfectly. Great Ladies onsen on the very ground floor.

New ZealandMy only wish would to have a toilet available on each floor. We had to walk quite a way and down some stairs to the toilet at night which was not ideal. I’d recommend Asking to be in a room on the same floor as a toilet

New ZealandThe only downside is that we were in the downstairs area and this was cold especially when nights were very cold.
Location was excellent. Great food and lovely hosts. We appreciated access to shared kitchen and onsen. Rooms were a decent size.

United StatesMy room did overlook the dining room which made for some noise, but this wasn't a big problem because I ate at the same times. If you want to sleep in late you might want to request a downstairs room. A bit hard to get to other places at night after the lift stops running without a car, but fine if you are just there to ski. Have to go up and down stairs alot so might not be good for people with mobility issues.
Soratobu Usagi was a cool place that reminded me a bit of a treehouse or a clubhouse. Its got a bit of a strange layout; kind of labyrinthine with many different floors; but I like the Alpine wood decor and the view of the slopes is great. Great location right on the slopes and good breakfast and dinner food available. There's a very hot shared bath, which doesn't have much ambience but it is nice hot and clean. I had a cool upstairs room that was quite big and felt like an attic space in a cool way, with nice views of the slope. The man who runs the desk was accommodating and helpful.

New ZealandThe mattresses in the room were too firm for us. The snow clearing very in the morning was very loud. But at least that meant there had been lots of snow!
The proximity to the skifield was great. Loved having the onsen on site. Great drying room. Meals were nice and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

FranceI would have liked more information on how to go to Myoko Suginohara by public transport (with links to the official timetables, even if just in Japanese). I would have liked more information on the price deductions if buying lift passes at the hotel. Maintaining this information, season after season, on the main page of the hotel would be helpful.
The hotel is very close to the slopes and you can ski in/out. The service was good, the staff pleasant, and overall facilities a bit old, but clean and I enjoyed my stay here.

AustraliaLocated at Suginohara resort which didn’t have access to a supermarket or many restaurants and cost 1000 yen for a bus to get to Akakura or other resorts for these larger facilities.
The staff were lovely, the room was good sized and breakfast was great. Was fantastic to be ski in/ski out. Good to have access to a small kitchen

New ZealandThe heating situation was not great. The oil burner required constant monitoring and wouldn’t turn off when temperature was reached and was hard to start. The room also felt like it was not insulated which made temperature management difficult. The blankets also triggered my friends allergies from dust probably. the location makes it a little difficult to get to other resorts and food places but not impossible. For future readers, it’s around 3000 to Akakura Onsen
Staff were always super helpful. On-site onsen was amazing. Purchasable dinner was extremely good. Literally ski in ski out. Bind in and take a free trip up the pair chair lift and buy tickets! Breakfast was very nice also.

AustraliaStayed twice, 2 different buildings (there are several in the complex) Just be aware - the buildings are old and poorly insulated. Neither room I had was relaxing - thin walls/ceiling so other guests kept me awake even if they were just walking around. If you can put up with that you will be fine for a night. Earplugs?. There are only a few eating options in the village nearby, not particularly good value, although the restaurant at the gondola base (upstairs) is very generous and tasty (last order 3pm!)
Typical minshuku/lodge in the mountains, but this one is right next to the ski run, so you can just slide down to the bottom lift (or snowboarders - just walk up to the gondola, its about 10 mins, you'll get there faster!) No need for shuttles! (you can get to and from the train station using the cheap community bus, if time not an issue) Staff - Utako very helpful and great at multitasking even when its busy. They really try hard to sort everyone out - just be patient as English is difficult for them, and your accent doesn't help ;-)! If there is enough snow, easy to ski home right to the door - but careful of cars using the same lanes/carparks. the breakfast / dinner room has a nice view (I didnt eat there though)

AustraliaIt is just a very small silly Westerner problem but the mattresses did take a little getting used to being so thin. In saying this though by the end of our stay I was enjoying the harder floor for my back and body. Probably a healthier way to sleep than what we are used to in our country
The food was outstanding and the owners and staff went above and beyond to help us in every way they could. Yet also allowed us privacy and freedom to enjoy their beautiful lodge and feel at home

JapanThe place is ok; room is nice, big, and warm but the rest of the house was very very cold. It also feels like a labyrinth, I was constantly getting lost.

New ZealandThe facilities are old and it is a bit of a labyrinth to get around. The shared spaces were very cold. Our room was quite noisy being directly under the dining room and it was quite drafty.

JapanThe pre-fitted green bed sheets had visible stains on them. 1 clean white sheet were given per person, but you'll have to choose whether to use it on the duvet, which had no covers, or on the beds. It's survivable, and if necessary, I will stay again, but the lodge felt like a (hiking) mountain hut rather than a 2-star hotel (as per Google/booking.com's hotel rating).
Breakfast and dinner were outstanding. Location is perfect - ski-in/ski-out.

JapanToo cold, besides our room and the restaurant area, just one toilet has heater, the other areas were super cold, was quite freezing leave the hot spring(they have one in the hotel) to a freezing changing room, and the area they call kitchen, is freezing cold and isn’t a real kitchen, just a small electric stove, that barely works, lol. But to be fair it has a kettle, oven, microwave and fridge, but was impossible to eat there due to the cold.
The location was perfect, right down the slopes, and the room was big enough for our size group (6). The hotel also has a restaurant, and the owner was very kind preparing a Vegan option for me to dinner in.
