Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. Ryokan is perfectly located, just next to the temple. The staff are welcoming and kind, helping with many things you didn't knew you needed help with. Food is delicious and atmosphere in Ryokan let's you feel like in Japan from the movies. Initially I thought it was pricey, however after the stay I'm disappointed of myself that I didn't book it for longer.

We had a beautiful room which had been renovated recently. Gorgeous windows and light, and one of the best showers I’ve ever experienced! Such friendly and helpful people working there.

We really liked the history and authenticity of the place, the feeling that it had once been a home and retained some of the original features. There is a nice spot to make coffee or tea, and we slept amazingly well, but you need to be mindful of other guests as the walls are thin. The location was really convenient, easy walk from the train station and the castle. We particularly enjoyed the food (delicious dinner and breakfast) and the kindness of the staff. Fabulous experience.

Our stay at Yadoya-Shiroganeya was nothing short of magical. Firstly, the house itself is beautiful and incredibly well kept. It's like stepping into a time machine but also with some modern conveniences. Secondly, Maki-San, the host, is wonderful. She's warm and welcoming and communicates very well in English. We had such a good time learning about the house, its history, and also about herself and how she runs the place. Thirdly, the food. I cannot stress enough how much of a culinary experience this is. The food served by Maki and her mother is exceptional. Locally-sourced and impeccably prepared, we had everything from fresh sashimi, seasonal vegetables, local beef, tempura, and soba noodles. It was honestly one of the best meals we had in Japan! The food alone makes price justifiable, never mind the rest of the experience. An absolute highlight of our trip, we'd love to stay with Maki again one day.

Takimi Onsen Inn that only accepts one group per day se nachází v destinaci Nagiso a nabízí pokoje s výhledem na hory. Jen 9,1 km odtud je Otsumago. It was amazing to experience living in a traditional japanese house.

Kisoji no Yado Iwaya se nachází v destinaci Kiso v regionu Nagano. Jen 41 km odtud je Takato Joshi Park. The service was exceptional and exemplary. They went over and beyond when addressing our requests. The hotel owner even followed us all the way to the convenience store after we had checked out just to give us additional information about our transportation to our next destination.

Ryokan Warabino se nachází v destinaci Takayama. Zoo Suzaka je 12 km daleko a Chrám Zenkodži 24 km. Tento ryokan se 3 hvězdičkami nabízí bezplatné Wi-Fi a zahradu. Good onsen with indoor and outdoor bath. The self-reservation system was working for us, while we not always were getting in in time we wanted to, eventually we always able to (you check card at onsen entry says "available", you flip a card to "occupied" and write time on the board until you planning to use it, 50 minute max) and it is all yours. The dinners and breakfasts were fantastic. It is traditional dinner, you got about 8 different courses, some cold some hot. While we did not like 100% of courses we had all of them were excellently prepared and served, just not everything was up to our taste (turns out I do not really like horse meat sashimi :) ) The meal room is private, and view is gorgeous. Service was to top notch. Wear yukata to dinner for extra point! We got large basket of really good local apples at check in as a gift and there was green tea and sweets in the room as well.

Berg Marukaneya se nachází v Nozawě Onsen, 2 km od jezera Hokuryuko. Ryokan se nachází 3 minuty chůze od nejbližšího lyžařského areálu a nabízí prodej skipasů. Stravovat se lze v restauraci. My husband and I loved our stay here. Only a 2 minute walk to the lift and 10 minute walk to the center of the village with lots of restaurants. We were provided with the traditional futon beds which was an interesting and not an all together uncomfortable experience. The room had a toilet and sink, but the showers were public by gender on a different floor (didn’t love that but we’re American and not used to it). The free breakfast is exceptional and the staff is oh so kind and helpful. We would stay here again.
