We picked the accommodation for its architecture and took delight in the contemporary design that we feel remains faithful to the traditional Japanese ryokan experience. The staff were really helpful from checking us in to going through the house rules to discussing the breakfast menu. We are appreciative the English translator assistance, especially with our beginner level Japanese. The breakfast was a simply yet filling Western breakfast and we took delight in making our own coffee with the coffee apparatus in the room. The nearby onsen was also complimentary and designated carparking is available. We wish we have more time to experience and appreciate the hospitality and the town. Hopefully we will be able to converse about the architecture and design at our next visit.

Having been to Izumo before and knowing it would not disappoint, I decided to take my family for another vacation in January. We stayed at Nipponia Izumo - Hirata Cotton Road for three nights. It is a former traditional sake brewery house converted into a kominka style hotel. Situated on a quiet historical sake and soy sauce business street, the hotel not only provided a unique home sweet home service but also amazing fine dining experience. Their in-house chef made each meal using local products to create feasts that delighted the senses. I highly recommend this hidden gem of an accommodation if you do visit Izumo.

This was our fourth trip to Japan and we've stayed in many ryokans. This is one of our favorites. The space we stayed at was huge. It was a two-story stand alone building. The seats looked out onto the courtyard with a pond and a lot of trees, which was very peaceful. I'm usually not the type to stay in my hotel/ryokan all day, but this place tempted me to do so due to the serenity of the courtyard. There were two private onsen that were easy to access due to the small number of guests that stay here. The food was fabulous. While walking around one morning I found a hiking trail that led up to castle ruins. The next morning I hiked up to the ruins and down the other side and came out near the Moss Land.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant, the food was among the best food we had on our entire japan trip. We traveled with one vegetarian and they were able to make great vegetarian food as well which we really appreciated! The inn was cozy and well managed and we had everything we needed. The location by the river and so close to Matsue Castle was also amazing. We can recommend this inn and Matsue city to everyone interested in seeing a different japan!

It was like an Oasis for soul and body. The food was delicious and vegetarian! It is so quiet and calm and the owner are the nicest people! We will definitely come back.

Hoshi Ryokan se nachází v destinaci Tsuwano a poskytuje bezplatné Wi-Fi ve všech prostorách a pokoje s klimatizací. Tento ryokan s 2 hvězdičkami nabízí prostor pro úschovu zavazadel. Hoshi Ryokan is so good that staying there justifies the trip to Tsuwano all by itself. An immense tatami room (actually two, a bedroom and a sitting room) plus a veranda to sit and watch the world go by. The owners are extremely gentle and helpful (they picked us up from the station even if it is only just across the road, just because it was raining so hard) and the breakfast and dinner are well worth having, and not only because there are few other options in town. And you stay in a real family home, the way B&B used to be.

Our room was fantastic, with a large sitting area, separate sleeping area with comfortable beds and private outdoor onsen. Staff were uniformly friendly, helpful and polite. Our meals were excellent and very filling. Each large window in our room looked out on different areas of an impeccably designed garden. We are already planning our next visit.

Onsen Guest House Aobato no Su se nachází v Matsue, jen pár kroků od Tamatsukuri Onsen, a nabízí bezplatné Wi-Fi ve všech prostorách. Na místě je soukromé neplacené parkoviště. Fantastic! Little towns like this will often have old-skool ryokans and cheaper alternatives (minshuku, hostels) that aren't nearly as good. This place is the perfect, more reasonably-priced, alternative to the big ol' ryokans. Was expecting a minshuku-looking place but, no, from the very first impression this was a lovely, big, beautiful place with a cool vibe. The staff were very sweet, the bath was small but much nicer than you'd expect for the price and the room was very spacioius indeed. Breakfast was dead good and the older gentelman who played the shamisen and told us tales of the area was lovely. Would 100% stay here again.
