Otatara was one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited! The beach was incredible! Close to invercargill but far enough away from town to be beautiful and peaceful. The camp was amazing, tranquil and out of this world.
Invercargill has a lot to offer. Queen's Park is a must-see. Aside from the beautiful gardens, there are nice bird aviaries and farmyard animals. It's a great place for families with a nice playground and cafe. Bill Richardson Transport World is a highlight, along with Oreti Beach which Bert Munro used as a race track. Hubber's Emporium and E Hayes are fantastic shops with many interesting things to see. There is a nice new mall and we found some good places to eat
The friendly and helpful staff, big open spaces but easy to get to kitchens etc. Very clean. Lovely comfortable little cabin with lots of storage and everything you need to be reasonably self sufficient. The weather was a bit inclement so it was lovely and warm and cosy when needed to be. The care taken of my elderly parents was exceptional - they were able to maintain their independence and had a really lovely time with both the staff and other campers as they are both very social.. They balanced this out with rest and relaxation - reading etc to their hearts content. They were close to people in the area they wanted to catch up with on tis holiday so it was a perfect location for them.
Great city on the up. Good selection of eateries and things to do and see. Most attractions are fairly close to the centre, and the airport is 5 minutes from there. I can happily recommend Invercargill for a visit.
Nice flat walking, the new mall has all the usual shops plus some additional surprises. Shopping is great, streets very clean, Queens Park is lovely and well cared for and there is a lot of city centre development going on with improvements for locals and visitors alike. Amigos restaurant if you like chili and Mexican food is worth a try.
Unfortunately the visitors centre was closed in 2020, so there was no information about what to see and how to achieve this. We were recommended to visit Stewart Island, apparently being the main attraction. You needed to book online but there was no information about the trip. At a cost of $200 each, rather expensive. Drove to Bluff to find out for ourselves, 30 kms but even less information. Very disappointing. Not much in the way of restaurants unless you are in to Asian food. One shopping centre, not much in it.
