Sommers Bay Beach House, hotel in Saltwater River

Set in Murdunna, 700 metres from Sommers Beach and 36 km from Port Arthur, Sommers Bay Beach House offers barbecue facilities and air conditioning.

It’s so nice to find a property that is dog friendly. My little 13 yr old boy goes everywhere with us. He has his own bed on the floor and sleeps beside me. Also when you work long hours you just need a break from it all. Sommers Bay Beach House ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️is the place to be.!

Seaforest Cottage - Water views, hotel in Saltwater River

Located in Eaglehawk Neck and only 14 km from Port Arthur, Seaforest Cottage - Water views provides accommodation with sea views, free WiFi and free private parking.

Very comfortable. Excellent appliances. A chemical free philosophy. A nice ambience with original art, dried flower arrangements and … great for winter - a wood burner with good supply of timber. We travelled as a couple and could choose between an upstairs or downstairs bedroom. Nice garden to wander through. Saw a deer, pademelon and maybe a Tasmanian devil (maybe ?)

The Fox and Hounds Historic Hotel, hotel in Saltwater River

Situated on the waterfront amidst natural landscape, the Fox and Hounds Historic Hotel is a 1-minute drive from Port Arthur Historic Site and a 15-minute drive from Fortescue Bay.

The whole feel of the fox and bounds was beautiful. The beautiful lady who checked us in seen that for some reason our room we booked had been changed and downgraded from a twin room with sea view to a queen room. I told her it was no issue as we are happy to share a bed, she clicked away for a couple minutes and upgraded us to a family room with 2 queen rooms, loungeroom and kitchen at no charge extra charge. She was absolutely beautiful to deal with. We had a delicious dinner there and all the staff were super accommodating and friendly and happy to have a chat. The beds were comfortable, our room was quiet. We had heard a few days Prior from others that they used to have a bad reputation but had new owners in the last year so couldn't comment what it was like now but prior they would not have recommended to stay there. I can definitely recommend staying, it was such a kind gesture to upgrade us after there was an issue with our room being downgraded for unknown reasons. We absolutely appreciated such a small gesture that made for 2 beautiful nights of sleep which was well needed.

The cottage was very cosy and well-equipped. We had everything we need! Rod was an exceptional host. We have thoroughly enjoyed our tour on his farm which he has kindly taken us twice to during our stay! My child loves the farm and was so sad when we had to leave.

Just a tip, it is fairly isolated from major supermarkets. we stocked up in sorell on the way. we drank the tap water and it is fine. All the attractions are 20-30 min car rides from saltwater except the coalmine convict settlement.

Saltwater River is a remote location and will suit those who want to 'get away from everything'. It is a quiet retreat with both beaches and bush. It is driving distance from some of South Tassie's treasures (Port Arthur, Tasman National Park, Fortescue Bay (and some spectacular walks), Remarkable Cave, Tesselated Pavement, Devil's Kitchen, Blowhole). There are very few dining options nearby, so it is best to self-cater. Saltwater River is a relatively sheltered area so good for water sports like paddleboards.

The accommodation was ok for a short stay ,but bed rooms and bathrooms too small for a family , the property was well equipped and clean , Very quiet and scenic and about 15 Km from Port Arthur along a country road and 5Km from the old coal mines . their is no town at saltwater river only a small corner shop as you drive to the accommodation so you have to drive to Port A. or back towards Eaglehawk Neck to find a restaurant or an IGA .
