Sheffield is a small town in Northern Tasmania, set in a lovely area of hills with mountains in the distance. The town has interesting shops, and all the basic needs for supplies and meals out. Its main feature are the large murals painted on most major buildings in the town, depicting its history and wildlife. Definitely worth a drive and a wander through. It also has a good Information Centre and art gallery attached. It has a lot of outdoor attractions in summer such as hiking, bike riding and a lake for rowing events.

Sheffield is 11km from the property with two turns.
Sheffield is 11km from the property with two turns. Sheffield doesn't have a large selection of dining options so check your options if this matters to you. I was happy to self-cater for part of my stay.
I would happily return to Silver Ridge and plan to do so in 2024.

A beautiful area with comfortable cottage.
A beautiful area with comfortable cottage. We ate in the cottage one evening with food we had purchased and went into Sheffield on the other night. We ate at the Sheffield Hotel and enjoyed the meal. Travel around was easy.

Sheffield is small enough to walk around the main shopping...
Sheffield is small enough to walk around the main shopping street and big enough to find some murals and old architecture worth a look, dotted round the outskirts. A variety of businesses including a well stocked clothes store, a small supermarket and various galleries and eateries, plus the ubiquitous local pub serving pretty ordinary cutner meals.
Our favourite cafe Fudge'n' Good Coffee was closed unfortunately. We ate at The Blacksmiths Gallery and Cafe, which was... interesting. A huge collection of tea pots, a few of which were for sale. Lots of terrible local 'art' on the walls and all sorts of bric a brac and gifts. The menu was reasonable but the kitchen (you walk past on the way through to the gift shop and toilet) and the reception and coffee service area looked like they could all do with a damned good scrub or refurb. A good place to stop and stetch the legs or stay a night to break up a long trip.
Magnificent view of Mount Roland. The cabin is really nice and the kitchen is complete with the amenities that we need to prepare our own meal. Lots of things to do around the place - small farm with friendly cows, horse and a goose, a walk to the cave and an old mine (they even prepare boots and torch lights). The place is also not too far from Cradle Mountain visitor center (30-40 mins drive), Sheffield (15 mins drive), Tasmazia (20 mins drive) and Mole Creek Cave (20-30 mins drive). We had a good peaceful time here.
This was our favorite place to stay in Tasmania! I wish we'd been able to stay more than one night. We came from a cold, windy, wet hike on Cradle Mountain to this wonderful haven. So many thoughtful touches like the fire setup, cozy bathrobes, a great tea selection, wine and beer available for purchase (really reasonably!) In the den, an incredibly comfortable bed with an electric blanket and so much great information about where to eat and things to do in the area. The place was amazing! Can't wait to come back.
It was a great location not very remote but away from town traffic. We loved the area and the fact that parking was right infront of your room door so you can get and pack everything quickly while on holidays. Its also in close proximity of Cradle Mountain, Ashgrove, Melita, Launceston and Devenport. Milk supplied for coffee was amazing. It really was very good in taste which we usually dont get in Sydney.
The Station House is an exceptionally place to stay in Sheffield. Marie was a wonderful host and the space was clean neat and tidy. It had all the amenities to make our stay a comfortable one and an exceptionally comfortable bed. Sheffield is a delightful little town, if you find yourself in this beautiful part of the world you should stay at The Station House, I guarantee you will not regret it.
Neil, the host made us very welcome. He is very friendly and good for a chat. He left us some treats on the table :) I accidentally left my housekeys behind and he was kind enough to post it to me without charge. The accommodation is well equipped, spacious and comfortable. It is located in the centre of Sheffield. Its close to all the services. I would highly recommend this place!
I liked that this accommodation was pet friendly. The house was warm and cosy when we arrived. We had great communication from the owner who checked in with us via text at check-in and checkout. Some breakfast items and snacks were provided which we weren't expecting which was a lovely surprise. The games and puzzles provided were also an added nice touch.
A quaint quarters nestled in a cottage garden. The Maid's Quarters was the perfect place to stay for our 1 night visit to Sheffield. The interior was stunning and everything you could want or need (and more) was provided. Snuggly bathrobes, Nespresso machine and beautifully curated breakfast including local jams, honey, granola and house-baked breads.
Great view of the mountain Roland. Staff is very friendly and helpful with everything. With his recommendation we visited the Silver mine cave nearby and saw many spiders guarding their egg sac. A very unique and memorable experience! The cabinet is very spacious with everything we need. The other big bonus is the stars at night - beautiful!
Clean and welcoming with touches from home.
There was a washing machine AND dryer which was fantastic.
Lovely little breakfast, and great kitchen facilities.
Excellent sized bedrooms to put suitcases on floor and still move around.
Marie and David made the stay special with extra niceties such as port and chocolates. Tasmanian wines were available to purchase, along with a book swap/buy facility. The lovely log fire made the place cosy
A very convenient unit at the Sheffield Motor Inn with good facilities. It was well equipped and quiet with great views of Mount Roland. This is my second stay, I really like the location and Sheffield!
View was great, and room was very good for a cabin. Location out of town , but some people would like that, Unfortunately Silver mine was too flooded to enter. Indoor pool looked good.
