Pleasant, clean and friendly hotel. The restaurant was very good value for an evening meal and the breakfasts were decent. The spa was being refurbished during our visit, but the parts that were open were well maintained and enjoyable.

We stayed at Bulgarche for one night last year, enjoyed the experience, so returned this year for two nights, using it as a base from which to explore the Rhodope area. The rooms are well-equipped and furnished in a distinctive but tasteful local style; clearly a lot of thought went into the planning of them. Last year we found the breakfast pleasant but rather sparse, but this year there was a choice of dishes and we were very well fed. However, the chief attraction is the restaurant, which serves the best food we have encountered in Bulgaria. We ate there both evenings. The main challenge is not ordering too much as the menu is very tempting and the portions are very generous. As elsewhere in Bulgaria, the prices are higher than last year, but fortunately the quality is unchanged. Mark was a particularly helpful waiter, but one of his colleagues less so.
