The infrastructure was great! It had iron, coffee maker, toaster, mini fridge, a complete kit of kitchen utensils. Perfect for a longer stay. Besides that, it was really clean and they're flexible about a late check-in. They have the option of breakfast for a fee and it was prepared really carefully for us. A great stay!

Hoyerwerda has a very mixed history, and this is obvious when you look around the area. The styles and ages of the buildings in the Altstadt and Neustadt (Old and new parts of town) echo the town’s historical background and church, and significance as a recent industrial centre.
You may also be interested to know that all of the street names and local signage are in both German and Sorbian, again a reflection of the area’s heritage.
As a German speaker, I found it easy to make myself understood. My companions spoke little German, but we found everyone very friendly and helpful.
The whole of the area is being opened up to tourism after the decline of the large industrial areas. There are lakes galore to explore there, cycling is easy is it’s completely flat, and the German road system is set up to give cyclists lots of protection on the road.
The Broiler Bar is a great place to eat if you like chicken! The portions are very generous, you’ve been warned! If you get offered the local soup, Solyanka, please do try it, it’s delicious!
The hotel was very nice, breakfast was excellent, the staff was nice and friendly. We arrived with two dogs and were given a larger room for free to make us more comfortable. Dogs are not allowed in the breakfast room, but you can sit in the area by the reception and take your food there - this is an absolutely wonderful solution if your dog howls in the room when alone. Overall we are extremely satisfied with the hotel and can highly recommend it.
