The town has interesting old buildings, and the seaside is open with parks all around. There are some good restaurants in the Rewell shopping mall. With buses it is easy to get to places slightly out of town. There are playgrounds in the middle of the city for kids and the main library has books in various languages for them to sit and read for awhile. We liked Edvin's Path, which you can get to on bus #15.
However, if you want to see the Kvarken archipelago, wait until mid-June to visit Vaasa, otherwise there will be no boat tours.

Good: Good shopping opportunities, especially at Kivihaka.
Good: Good shopping opportunities, especially at Kivihaka. I estimate the Swedish-speaking percentage of the residents at 75%, probably the highest in Finland by some margin. 24/7 kiosk at Shell Pitkäkatu. Generally nice-looking city. Tropiclandia was nice for a summer day.
Less impressive: Getting to/from the ferry pier is chaotic (especially when the ferrytaxi driver didn't speak Swedish nor English). It was not easy to find any of the city's restaurants.
Personal tip: I'd favour trying to figure out how to get from downtown to Kivihaka by bus next time, due to the overly snaking pavement paths between the two.

The people are nice and helpful and the town centre is small enough to walk through it and see everything on foot. The beach is lovely, especially in winter and it guarantees for a great walk and great scenery.
The bus service was a bit difficult to grasp as bus stops are not well marked and buses are not frequent especially outside the centre of Vaasa.

A very quiet place with many shops and bars.
A very quiet place with many shops and bars. However nothing is really thought for tourists. We wanted to visit the Kvarken Penisula 25 km North. There are buses going there a couple of weeks in July but August was already considered Fall period. The last day we were there, we were planning to take the bus used by scholars, following Tourist Office advice but the information turned wrong. We tried to rent a car but there was nothing available. We went to Tempere that we really liked for its friendly people and its lakes.

We enjoyed the flat breads of Niska Vasa.
The Aroma Bageri & Konditori is a highly recommended plae if you like well baked bread and sweet buns!
The UNESCO World Heritage site Kvarken Archipelago is close by and worth visiting for ones who like to see nature on their trips.
The breakfast buffet was excellent, lots of variety in a cozy breakfast room (not the usual hotel buffet feel). Room had a sauna and spa which were wonderful. Room itself was a bit different, old fashioned style (we were in the older part of the hotel). The location is excellent, walking distance from the central square and 5 mins walk from the beach street.
One of the best places we stayed in Finland. Wonderful decorations with model ships and nautical bric-a-brac. The sauna was great. Very spacious and well appointed. Information from host was complete, concise and timely. Breakfast was modest, though good and fresh. We wished we could have stayed longer.
The staff was really friendly - even though the hotel closed early, they arranged us the dinner and an upgraded room with sauna. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned but comfortable and clean, and most importantly, quiet and dark at night. The breakfast was adequate. Overall a really nice experience.
It was another perfect hotel that I stayed. It was super clean, very comfortable, perfect system and with an extremely strong WiFi connection. Even on weekends Breakfast was good without having any of their staff present physically. It was a perfect place at a perfect location.
really nice and sizable room with beautiful view from the window
it was amazing experience
I will be back in very short time
I want to express my sincere gratitude to the employee of this magnificent hotel for the wonderful atmosphere that they have created with their work
Nice place with big balcony and sauna. Located in walk distance to everything important in Vaasa. Very pleasant stay for us. Sauna included and Teatteri parking place just below the appartment (literally, because the access is like 10 meters from the appartment entrance).
Perfect place for a family. Spacious appartment with all the facilities needed in a perfect location in Vaasa. Lovely decorated appartment making the stay comfortable and relaxed. We can recommend this place to all families up to 6 people. Just great!!
Was sparkling clean .
And in very good location near the center very easy check in .
I highly recommend this apartment is by far the most clean and well equipped place I have been staying in Vaasa and in Finland in general .
Have stayed before but it appears to have gone down toilet wasn’t cleaned had to request.
In general I would rate as 2/3 star at best and expensive.
If coming to Vaasa again would have to consider another hotel.
Such a cozy space in the center of city with great breakfast, home feeling rooms and helpful and smiley personnel. I recommend everyone to give a chance to Astor other than "fancy hotels"
