What a gorgeous house so lovely and comfortable . Wonderful accommodation for a night stop over . It feels like it should be in the countryside...it probably once was. Would return again if visiting the area.

Wonderful welcome. Safe off street parking. Very dog friendly. Nice enclosed garden with seating areas. Bar and breakfast offered but no restaurant onsite, however staff make recommendations and reservations. We ate at the Haut Ministere which was 10 minutes walk and had an excellent, good value meal. No a/c and some rooms face the street although it is not noisy I would recommend requesting a room facing the garden.
This beautiful castle set in the heart of a 25-acre park blends the pleasures of a Renaissance château with the comfort of a boutique hotel and was once a hideaway for Henry IV.

Beautiful chateau in a charming village. Close to motorway links. Ideal and restful stop if you’re travelling. Pet friendly. We had evening dinner which was fabulous 3 course meal at a very reasonable cost.

The hotel is very tired needs attention the rooms are tired . Position good for the motorway and restaurant next door.We didn't have a credit card and they refused to take our payment by debit cards as they only wanted a credit card.Luckily we had cash so could pay . They should tell you on the booking only credit card but I was allowed to make the booking by my debit card .

I've stayed here a couple of times before on long road trips to/from Spain. Always friendly, but... the location is OK, and parking outside is easy. Nice breakfast.
Le Chapeau Rouge is located in Alençon, a 6-minute drive from the train station. The hotel offers a garden and a shared lounge with TV. Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout.
This place is unique. It is not for the traveller who prefers smart, sharp basics. It is a place for lovers of art/books and memorabilia. We simply could have spent hours in this ‘curiosity!’ Environment.
The owner was amazing with a wealth of knowledge on any item you commented upon. So if you want an ‘experience’ then enjoy and don’t limit your time. The owner is pleased to share his knowledge with you.

We liked the fact that we were only staying one night and survived the complete chaos of this establishment. The elderly single (widower probably) is struggling to maintain this establishment which has wonderful potential for new owners prepared to invest time and money to improve the facilities.

Charming Manoir and host Frederique.
Charming Manoir and host Frederique. Room was gracious and large. Shabby Chic would describe it with lovely antique furnishings - some peeling paint on the ceiling and ‘compact’ toilet and shower arrangements which were quirky but added to the charm. Lovely breakfast. Thoroughly refreshing and interesting stay and would happily return.

If you want a rural retreat with scenic views and fresh air this is perfect. But the accommodation is very rustic lacking in mod cons but so full of character you have to fall in love with it and it’s maitre d’hotel Frederick - long may he continue running this unique property.

One of the best breakfasts we have had in a ´hotel’. Beautifully laid table, fresh viennoiseries and bread, clafoutis and delicious local jams. Spacious and authentically furnished rooms and an outstandingly welcoming host who booked us dinner in Alençon at Le Bistrot for a splendid meal. An exceptional experience - the antithesis of the soulless modern corporate hotel.
A fantastic quirky hotel. The host was exceptional. The room was spotlessly clean with various quirky features inside. The breakfast room was very good with guests able to chat to each other in a different atmosphere with various period furniture. Highly recommended
the host Frederic was fabulous. very friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast was included and we had fun talking with the other guests over breakfast. The hotel is full of antiques, very charming and not at all sterile. we will definitely pay it another visit.
Unusual and comfortable room and building. Definitely not an anonymous box parked by a suburban shopping centre.
Excellent breakfast.
A very pleasant change from the hotel chains, and excellent value.
