a great base for walking in the Cantal Volcanic mountains; a good train connection, good shops and cafes, and more than one excellent bakery, especially Au Delices Montagnards and Du Pain et des Jeux (organic); there is a good supermarket, and a market on Fridays. walking routes start from the town, and get quickly into varied and interesting countryside including forests, mountains, wild flower meadows, and streams.

Though the little town has medieval character, you do no travel to Murat for the town itself, but rather as a basis to explore the surroundings. Fist at all the volcanoes like the Puy Mary and the Plomb du Cantal or old towns and villages in the region, like Saint Flour or Salers (with its world-renowned cheese) not to mention the castles, old churches and little valleys dotted with farms, cows, sheep and goats. The region is a hiking paradise and good for biking tours too.

A bit quiet in early June, but great for access to walking in the hills with Puy Mary an easy 20 minutes away by car - a must do walk. Also a walk to the top of the local rock with statue took just 15 minutes each way. Eat twice at the laurette creperie, good food & value.
Good value, no frills place. We had a very friendly welcome on arrival. We enjoyed sitting in the peaceful sunny garden at the back with a beer and a coffee, as the hotel is associated with the tabac. Just behind are the very interesting streets of the town, so location was excellent.
Ample space for me, my husband and 3 boys. Comfortable beds and excellent facilities. Agnes was a very attentive host. Great location in a quaint area of Murat, lovely boutique shops, bars and restaurants on your doors. Only a 10 minute drive to le Lioran ski resort.
Very nicely decorated room with the beautiful view, quiet area, comfortable bed, friendly hosts. well worth to try dinner in their restaurant adjacent to the hotel. Delicious local specialities.
For the price you pay it is clearly a good choice. There is even a common kitchen where you can store and cook food. Sure, it is a basic hotel but it has everything you need!
This is a cheap, clean, basic hotel within easy walking distance of the main square and old Town. Pay a bit extra for the garden side room, to avoid road noise.
