Location and staff. The kitchen was good for self-service. And on the El Camino route.

It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

Axel and Daphne were the best hosts!! From the pilgrim send-off in the morning to the breakfast to the meditation/quiet/prayer room, everything was amazing. Perfect location - down a short walk from the pilgrim's office, and right near the entrance up to the citadel. The backyard is lovely, as are the chickens, and the whole space is just beautiful and welcoming. You can tell they put a lot of effort and love into it. Would recommend to anyone starting their Camino!
Very large sunny room with kitchenette on the second floor. The room was clean and well supplied with towels, hair dryer. The hotel is centrally located across from the Citadelle and near quite a few fine restaurants. Pantxika got us settled in and was very tolerant of my high school French.
This Gite has a lot of character and over the years many international pilgrims of the Frances Camino have gathered here to cross into Spain on the route Napoleon. The operators are friendly, efficient and offer kitchen privileges and an early breakfast to send the pilgrims off prepared.
I stayed 2 nights here before setting off on the Camino Francès. Perfect location to start. Beautifully furnished home with stunning garden facing the amazing hills.
The owner gives you a warm welcome and cooked tasty evening meal. Breakfast was good too. Highly recommend.
Pascal and Joe were the best hosts one could hope to have for one's first day on the Camino. I can't say enough good things about them and about their albergue. I rank their albergue as one of the most special memories of my Camino.
The breakfast was good, available at any time. You pay 5 euros but there is no service and you have also to clean, dry and store the dishes. I think that it can be cheaper in a café outside and with more services.
lovely hotel in sjpp. we stayed here before beginning our camino. hotel is charming and our room was spotless. staff was pleasant and helpful. great location in sjpp
Alicia was so nice and so helpful. I would definitely stay there again. Amazing breakfast to set off on the Camino. Highly recommend Alicia’s accommodation
Hotel receptionist was very welcoming and friendly.
Lovely position and great sitting on the balcony overlooking the mountains.
Good breakfast, very relaxed
After a long day of traveling, it was so nice to have a very comfortable bed. The staff was very nice and even helped us make reservations at an albergue.
