Cheddar village itself is nothing special but the Gorge and the caves are a must see. Also buy some real cheddar cheese at the foot of the gorge.
It is also within easy reach of some excellent spots such as the city of Wells and Glastonbury.

Cheddar Village is lovely. Nice pubs, Café and gift shops.
Cheddar Village is lovely. Nice pubs, Café and gift shops. Can get quite busy at weekends. We stayed close enough to walk there. Surrounding places to visit include Glastonbury and Wells.
Walked the Gorge, Which is quite tough in places. There is a free route and you can come down Jacob’s ladder free of charge. (You pay to walk up it)
There are other flatter walks suitable for older people and children. Felt that the entry fee to the caves was very high £25 each.

Cheddar Gorge is very impressive.
Cheddar Gorge is very impressive. We had rather bad weather so wwren't able to walk along the top, which I imagine would be lovely on a good day. Gough's cave is worth visiting - and you get to see the cheese stored there. Cox' s cave is more of a new age experience with lights and sounds etc. Actually I think that it would have been rather intersting ib it's natural state!

Very interesting area, lots to see and do but the attractions all seemed very expensive. The gorge is really impressive though, Plenty of cafes and restaurants, we had a few good pub meals and lovely ice cream. Staff at the Riverside Inn were very helpful with providing gluten free food. Spent a nice day at the Chew Valley lakes where there is a gluten free chip shop (a rarity!).
Lovely countryside, however, it was very busy. The noisy bikes and cars whizzing around at over the speed limit spoiled it a bit for us. It was quite dangerous walking along the gorge in some places.

Cheddar Gorge is a fantastic natural phenomenon.
Cheddar Gorge is a fantastic natural phenomenon. Exploring the caves is an absolute must and you are given a Wi-Fi device to use for an audio explanation as to how the caves were formed.
Jacobs Ladder isn’t for the faint hearted, 274 steps in all but once at the top a short climb up the viewing tower is a must, amazing view all round.
We walked along the path at the top of the gorge which just keeps giving more and more spectacular photo opportunities.
I would recommend you go earlier in the morning to ensure you get a parking place as during the later part of the morning everything seemed to be very busy .
Plenty of little cafes and quaint tea rooms to check out but beware of the prices !!
It was a very welcoming , friendly house . We could make an open fire which was lovely and very well equipped. It was in a very good location close to the centre of Cheddar. We were 6 family members from all over England and Europe meeting up and celebrating my mothers 101st birthday.
We very much enjoyed our stay in the house . There was even a piano and a guitar which we tinkled on..The owners always responded quickly and kindly to any questions I had
The property has good car parking, and accomodation is quite. The property is located just 1 mile from Cheddar Gorge. We were welcomed by property owner (Mag) and took us to room. Room is quite spacious and maintained well. The bathroom is well maintained. The Rooms have a common kitchen and well equipped. I would recommend travellers to make the choices (based on availability) and stay here. They provide multiple types of Breakfast services too.
Stayed in one of the static caravans. Lovely location with parking right outside the door, patio doors onto decking overlooking the river. Very comfy bed, good size open plan lounge/diner area with nice big sofas and a decent TV. Quite well equipped, most of things we needed to cook were provided. A welcome pack with information about the area would have been nice though. No towels provided but gave us some when we asked.
Everything else was great! Room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Facilities around the hotel were excellent, especially the beautiful gardens and swimming pool area. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, they were helpful and accommodating the whole time. Breakfast was fresh and tasty with endless top up of drinks if you wanted it. Ideal location for access to the beautiful Cheddar.
The Stables were a fabulous place to stay. Everything you could wish for and need...a real home from home. A great location too, being only 10 mins or so to Cheddar and 20 mins or so to Wells (both great days out). Hosts were lovely and we'd definitely recommend everyone to stay there.
Comfortable bed, warm cottage, beautifully furnished, well equipped, parking off road behind accommodation, hosts are on hand and available for any help needed.Quiet at night.Use of garden should you wish to,near pubs short stroll away and Cheddar village further on.Everything we needed.
Gordon's was spotlessly clean, rooms and all areas beautifully furnished and very comfortable.
The choice and quality of breakfast was exceptional. Rory was very helpful and eager to make our stay perfect. Staff at breakfast very pleasant and efficient and just lovely people
Friendly welcome, made to feel at home. Tailor made breakfast personally delivered to the accommodation.
8 minute walk to Cheddar village so able to avoid excessive parking charges in the gorge itself.
Room was clean and modern. All facilities we needed.

Hotel was excellent. Staff friendly and efficient. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order. Dinner menu was varied and food well cooked and presented. Hotel is 20 minutes walk from Cheddar Gorge caves.
Thank you for a lovely stay! The caravan is super modern and comfortable with pretty views of the fields and trees around. We visited Wookey Hole and did a walk at Cheddar Gorge.
Very clean, immaculately decorated, beds comfy, was about 25/30 min walk into Cheddar for pubs/shops which was doable and felt like a ‘safe’ walk home late at night.
Great lay out with plenty of space. It had everything we needed for our stay. Location was perfect being a short distance away from Cheddar and 2 pubs close by.
That was one of the best experience I ever had - Kind people, amazing breakfast and well tasting beer. If you are near Cheddar - this is the place to stay!
