The quality of the location, room, restaurant and hotel staff was all excellent and all that we could have wished for.
Set in 2.5 acres, surrounded by moorland and unspoilt countryside, this award-winning property is a former 16th century Coaching Inn, full of character and warmth.

Arrived after travelling for 7hrs. The place was not open. When we did get greeted we were questioned regarding our surname the person greeting us was standoffish rather rude not at all welcoming. Showed us to our room, the overpowering smell of mould hit us on entrance to the hall and up the stairs. Once shown our room told the bar will open shortly, checked hot water was on asked if we had booked breakfast, we were unsure as the booking was made months in advance said they would check. We looked at our room, the on suite appeared poorly maintained and very grubby and tired, dead moths on spare toilet paper, bedroom VERY STRONG smell of damp and mould, bed was damp to touch, the room as a whole VERY VERY old fashioned but not in a good way bedding miss match and really grubby and tired looking. We could not stay there. We then went back to our car and had to find some where else that had a vacancy for 2 adults and 2 small dogs. So we paid over £200.00 for a room that was not fit for purpose and had the stress of finding alternative accommodation at an extra cost of £98.00. We spent the night in a bed and breakfast 30 minutes away. This bed and breakfast was VERY CLEAN smelt CLEAN and breakfast was included. We could only book one night as the next night was booked out. We had a lovely welcome and good breakfast and traveled back home. Our long weekend break had to be cut to one night because of the false advertising by this inn. We had been so looking forward to our trip which should have been for Friday and Saturday night.

Great location, easy to find & exactly as described on the site. Good facilities & loved the treat & milk in the frdige, very thoughtful. Thank you.
Very interesting. We went on a busy Bank Holiday weekend but the village coped admirably. It is good to know that there is a community of some 200 living there. Prices for entry was reasonable and included the lovely gardens. The adjacent church is a hidden gem. The village is not in any way spoilt by any modern additions and the atmosphere is lovely. Arrive early to miss the rush if it is a weekend. Don't forget to walk a little way along the beach to see the waterfall. Get your cream tea and/or lunch in early.
Well worth the day we spent there.

A wonderful place to visit, especially out of the main tourist season when things are quieter. Just be aware of the accessibility issues before you go and check whether or not this will affect you or companions travelling with you.

The village is a living museum which is charming and I love the ethos. However, this comes with an understanding of leaving your car at the top of the hill and carrying luggage to and from your hotel.
The hill ensures a good workout for your quads and it is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

Clovelly is a historical "one off".
Clovelly is a historical "one off". However to visit one must be fairly active as the way down to and through the village is steeply downhill and cobbled, slippery when wet. The visitor centre at the top of the village will give you some really good information about what to see and do and I recommend watching the film on the village in the centre. It will also relieve you of £8.75 per adult to visit, though free if you stay over!!

Clovelly is a picture-postcard place, very interesting to visit. We stayed 2 nights at the New Inn which was good, allowed us to see and do everything. Food and drink is quite expensive, you will need good walking shoes to get about as the high street is very steep (not sandals as some people were wearing), not really suitable for very young children or frail adults. The formal gardens are excellent, as are the craft workshops. Breathtaking views at various points. Good visitor centre with informative video of the village.

Just absolutely stunning quant place to visit, cobbled steps all the way down to the seafront /Harbour pop in to the red lion Hotel, walk along to the waterfall ,go along the Quay, on your way up or down pop in the old new Inn delicious food lovely host , loved it so much I purchased a print from a local artist who came in and signed if for me just beautiful place .
Stayed at the new inn at the end of our honeymoon. Cannot praise the hotel enough or the staff who work there . We were made to feel special and nothing was to much trouble. The young chap even put queen music on in the evening while having our food. They even went the extra mile and gave us a bottle of complimentary Prosecco. The hotel has a lovely Homely feel and compliments he lovely village of Clovelly. Really recommend staying here you will not be disappointed. A proper little Gem .
Clovelly is a destination, with historic streetscape, structures, compact gardens, and hillsides and sea. Outstanding walking experiences. Our room had a balcony with a view to opposite streetscape and hillsides and a peek-a-boo down the street to the sea. Room had a compact bath and bedroom with a non-working fireplace and some character ceiling under the main roof. Very good full cooked breakfast with yogurt or cereal starters if you like in a character-filled room.
Beautiful, spotlessly clean and very comfortable bedroom with stunning countryside and sea views! Helen and Brian have created a home away from home for guests and their hospitality is second to none! A very delicious cooked breakfast served in the morning with plenty of continental options available too. Great base to explore the Hartland peninsula, Clovelly etc. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
I paid to stay at the New Inn Clovelly, I was taken across the street to stay in a different house with a shared bathroom. I was embarassed as I had been raving to my friend how great it was going to be. I HAD BOOKED THE NEW INN, PAID FOR THE NEW INN AND ENDED UP STAYING SOMEWHERE TOTALLY DIFFERENT WITH A SHARED BATHROOM. NOT ACCEPTABLE
We loved the location, as it was really close to Clovelly! It had stunning views of the sea, and was immaculate! Room was spacious and had a separate seating area to the bedroom which was lovely! 10/10 hosting, she made us feel really welcome and at home. Breakfast was amazing, can’t fault the whole stay!
Clovelly is a wonderful place to vist and it feels special to actually stay here overnight. It is a living village and the New Inn is particularly well sighted being halfway up (or down) the steep cobbled hill. There is a bar and restaurant as well as accomodation so everything is available on hand.
The location and view were amazing - we even saw porpoises from the window!
The room was very comfortable and clean and the food we had was very nice. All the staff we came across were really helpful. It was nice that the price of the hotel included parking and a lot of the attractions in clovelly.
Welcoming, helpful and attentive to your requirements.
Breakfast was delicious with homemade jam and freshly laid eggs on the menu.
The room and beds were very comfortable with en suite bathroom and a fridge which was great for essentials.
Close to Clovelly can walk or a few minutes in the car.
We had a warm welcome from the lady who helped us with the check in. The room was really comfy, very tasty breakfast. The lady who served us breakfast was really polite and friendly.
The hotel is only 10 minutes drive from Clovelly Village and about 15minutes drive from Bideford town centre.
Lovely pub. Food was excellent with great breakfast. The staff was really wonderful ( especially Amy). Even though Clovelly itself is a challenge we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights stay.
