I have stayed in the Mash Tun on numerous occasions and always have enjoyed my stay, due to the friendliness of staff etc. and the excellent food and room comfort.
However on this recent visit, the only positive was the room comfort.

There is only 1 Bar in Dufftown and it’s basic but has a dart board but that’s your lot.now as others lost business to Covid. There’s an Indian which is average and take away which is basic. Advise to book places to eat in Aberlour to avoid disappointment. Whisky tours only accept online bookings.

The people were friendly.
The people were friendly. Unfortunately the tourist information office had been shut down. There were plenty of distilleries nearby if you had a car. There were good walking tracts if you had a medium level of fitness. There is only one pub as far as I know but I would recommend the restaurant as the food which was excellent.

Charming little town in the heart of whisky country!
Charming little town in the heart of whisky country! Glenfiddich Distillery with its excellent visitor facilities situated in the town and several other distilleries open to view in the locality. An interesting ruin, Balvenie Castle, to explore on the outskirts of the town. Dufftown also boasts its own heritage railway which is definitely worth a visit. Beautiful walks and lovely scenery around the town.

Only a few restaurants in and around town make sure you reserve ahead. If you plan on going to the distillery's or the Speyside cooperage also make sure you book ahead. Dufftown golf course is public and is nearby and will rent you decent clubs. Great course. ACE taxis if you had too much good Whisky.

We stayed for 8 nights during the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival and the location was pretty central for many of the events. Lots of lovely places to visit during the day in the surrounding area.
Loved the Dufftown Glassworks, a little coffeeshop come art gallery, and the Seven Stills restaurant was extremely good for a special meal.
There are only three places left in Dufftown serving hot food in the evening - even the local chippie has closed down. The only cafe, The Coffee Pot, opens at 9am (10am at the weekend), which was too late for us for breakfast, and closes at 3pm, so we didn't use it during our visit. Everything else has closed down and there are no signs of any other businesses moving in to take their place. The only other option for an evening meal is to go further afield, and the buses stop running very early evening, so you have to either drive or take a cab. We were there for the whisky festival, so driving was obviously out of the question, and the taxi cabs were totally booked up (because it was the whisky festival...). We were fortunate that we had cooking facilities at our accommodation and could make do.
Pretty disappointed with the public transport. I believe that they put on extra services in previous years for the festival, but not this year. Even one single late bus would have been useful - on the biggest week of the year for tourism the last bus leaving Elgin for Dufftown was 6.35pm!

The town is beautiful and clean, but we couldn’t find a restaurant which was open at around 14:30 on a Tuesday after we finished our whiskey tour. None of the nearby castles were open. I’d avoid being there on a Monday or Tuesday as most restaurants only open on Wednesdays.
We had 5 pretty comfortable days here. The location was perfect for us, loads of walks in and around the area and there's a small supermarket and a brilliant butchers a few steps away. The owner is very responsive if you have any questions or problems. Dufftown itself is pretty quiet in terms of pubs/restaurants but if you're looking for a peaceful, chilled break I can recommend a stay here.
The location was great, lovely fantastic spacious room, spotlessly clean.
The host was friendly and very helpful, I slept so well I thought I was at home, the bed was very comfortable.
Great place to stay would highly recommend and would visit again.
To Make a point I work all over the UK and stay in many hotel's and B&B's and this is at the very top of places I have ever stayed in. 10/10
The house was amazingly situated for a whisky trip round Speyside. Snack bang in-between Balvenie and the now defunct Convalmore distillery, it was an easy walk (via the station and some Highland coos) to the centre of Dufftown. Perfect for a group of friends or a family, we would recommend this accomodation. Our host Michael was so helpful and accomodating.
In the heart of whisky country!! Just an amazing location in Dufftown, with no less than six distilleries within walking distance. And the staff is super helpful and really knows a lot about whisky, the area and the distilleries. Visit the neighboring towns with distilleries either by car or by bus. Really loved the experience, thanks Steve & Jo!
I visited with my Dad on 22nd July 2021, first class B & B, Theresa made us feel so welcome , felt like a home from home and spotlessly clean, comfiest bed ever! Best B & B Ive ever stayed in, better than most hotels! the home made flap jacks and wee decanter of whisky in the room was an extra special touch , we will definitely be back !
We liked the location of the hotel and the room was very clean. Breakfast was excellent and all the staff were really friendly. We did not use the restaurant but the menu looked really nice. There is also a great Indian restaurant just across the road. On street parking outside the door was good. Nice selection of beers in the bar.
The location was excellent in terms of access to the area distilleries. Dufftown is a nice, quaint town. Very quiet. The Cottage was very nice, well decorated and clean. The bathroom was up to date and the kitchen was very well done and well stocked. The on-site laundry facilities were a great bonus!
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome. Host is very friendly. Loved the b&b facility and the small fridge in the accommodation was very useful. We would book again if in the area and happily recommend to others. Very good location if you’re doing the whisky trail.
Mortlach cottage is perfectly situated in the middle of Dufftown. You are in easy walking distance to shops and bars of the town. It is much bigger than a hotel room and you have the kitchen and the living room to get together. The cottage has a very Scotish charm to it. We loved it!
Dufftown is an excellent base for Speyside whiskey exploration, so in terms of location, Dunvegan B&B is perfectly situated for exploring the area. The owner is very attentive and happy to make your stay comfortable; the breakfast cooked to order is just fantastic.
The internal space downstairs is vast and the location is excellent. You are only ever a minutes walk away from most of the shops, restaurants etc and Dufftown itself is a fabulous little place to base yourself for the whole of speyside and the Cairngorms.
Very good B&B, run by a very nice couple. Breakfast was all you could wish for and both owners are doing everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The B&B is in the whiskey capital, Dufftown, and within walking distance of local services.
The apartment is a bit on the outskirts of Dufftown, but still only 5-10 min from the center with few restaurants and cafes. It has a nice terrace , garden and views. Well equipped to spend some days in the area and explore around
Excellent breakfast, perfect location, superb owners. We feel very lucky to have found Gowanbrae for our stay in Dufftown. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing trip to the area.
The porridge for breakfast was excellent and the location was great and central. A lovely place to stay especially if you’re a whisky buff. A few distilleries nearby.
Lovely property, great hosts and breakfast was exceptional. Best of quality bacon and eggs. Great location for visiting the Dufftown and surrounding areas.
Lovely warm welcome, beautiful large room with comfortable bed and a great
Shower. Fabulous breakfast. An easy short drive to Dufftown. Recommend highly
